Description

The Residential Counselor will be directly responsible for the daily care of Italian Home for Children clients. The RCs support clients in reaching their full potential through providing positive and nurturing relationships and a stable, consistent, and structured living environment. RCs offer clients the opportunity to learn new life skills and to replace maladaptive behaviors with more appropriate and socially acceptable strategies. RCs nurture and care for clients and ensure the wellbeing and safety of clients. Residential Counselors model care, empathy and patience for children and families. RCs are committed to providing the highest quality of care for children. We are currently seeking RCs on a part-time basis to fill partial shifts from 5am-9am, Monday through Friday, and assist with helping clients get ready for school. Schedules are subject to change based on the needs of the Program to ensure safety of clients and employees. This role will provide 20 paid hours/week. Longer weekend shifts are available for those who are interested in more hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Directly supervise and closely monitor clients throughout the entire overnight shift
  • Engage with and fully attend to children, monitoring behavior and interactions closely, assisting with regular morning activities.
  • Provide a therapeutic milieu environment for clients, maintaining a safe and healthy environment; and meeting the physical and emotional needs of clients
  • Work as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of clients
  • Implement treatment protocol established in client's treatment plans and individual behavior plans
  • Interacting with clients, demonstrating a therapeutic and caring purpose
  • Apply treatment philosophy and training
  • Provide therapeutic intervention, including physical restraints, done safely and by training standards
  • Communicate effectively with day/evening staff, supervisors and clinical team
  • Maintain clean dorm areas and client bedrooms
  • Transport clients to school and appointments as assigned
  • Attend shift change meetings and provide regular updates about youth


Administration:
  • Responsible for ensuring all logs and documentation are accurate
  • Attend required meetings and trainings, including weekly staff meeting and all milieu meeting
  • Actively participate in supervision and professional development opportunities
  • Report work time accurately, punch in/out for shifts, approve timecard every pay period via the HR/payroll system
  • Complete all online trainings by due date through HRIS system or other identified platforms
  • Always check emails at start and end of shift

  • Current MAP (Medication Administration Program) certification (or certification received within 6 months of starting position)

  • Ability to bend, reach, move and lift 75 pounds
  • Responsive to emergencies quickly and safely; respond to unexpected circumstances calmly with a quick change of plan/strategy
  • Demonstration of understanding and application of principles taught in trainings and seminars, including therapeutic crisis intervention
  • Integrity in the handling of sensitive and confidential information related to clients and employees
  • Maintenance of strictest confidentiality regarding clients and employees; adhere to all HIPPA guidelines and regulations
  • Receptive and responsive to supervision and professional development
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver's License preferred
  • Acquire and retain First Aid and CPR certification
  • Acquire and retain certification in de-escalation and restraint curriculum
