**HFIR Shift Supervisor**
**Location:** Oak Ridge, TN, US, 37830 * Successfully conducts shift operations in accordance with plant procedures, HFIR Technical Safety requirements, and Safety Analysis Report.
* Maintains qualification as Shift Supervisor on the HFIR.
* Designated as the single point of control for authorizing, directing, supervising, and monitoring plant operations activities.
* Should be in the control room for major evolutions, such as plant startups and shutdowns, including the prestartup/shutdown evolutions.
* Acts as HFIR Emergency Director in the event of an emergency until relieved by higher management authority.
* Following an unanticipated transient, analyzes the circumstances, determines the cause, and ensures that operations can proceed safely after obtaining approval from the HFIR Operations Manager or designee.
* Notifies higher management of occurrences as required.
* Supervises the HFIR operations functions required by the Emergency Plan, Health Physics Manual, Security plan, and their respective implementing procedures.
* Ensures shift-operating crews review changes to operating procedures, plant modifications, and revision to the HFIR Technical Safety Requirements (TSR).
* Authorizes the on-shift activities of operations and maintenance groups to accomplish the operating objectives for the shift stated in the Plan-of-the-Day.
* Authorizes the removal and return to service of equipment and systems for maintenance and testing, or operational activities.
* Ensures that the shift is properly staffed. Requests or initiates call-out of personnel as required.
* Ensures completion of surveillances and shift routines assigned to his or her shift.
* Authorizes temporary modifications; requests appropriate engineering reviews of these items when required.
* Authorizes work start for activities affecting plant equipment and systems.
* Ensures work is conducted in accordance with appropriate tagging, safety and configuration control procedures.
* Supervises waste handling with respect to shift operations.
* Ensures that on-shift training of personnel is conducted as scheduled.
* Reviews shift records for accuracy, completeness, and trends.
* Acts as custodian of plant keys assigned to Operations.
* Monitors qualifications, mental condition, and physical condition of Operations shift personnel.
* Promotes good housekeeping by periodically inspecting those areas assigned to Operations.
* Ensures that plant operation deficiencies are identified and corrective actions are initiated.
* Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Operations Manager.
* Supervises the Reactor Operators to ensure proper performance of their assigned duties.
* Ensures proper maintenance of the HFIR Operations Chronological log.
* Periodically tours the plant to monitor the material condition and operational practices, and provides specific instructions when necessary.
* Exercises "stop work" authority within the HFIR facility when appropriate.
* In general, maintains the work place in a safe condition, ensuring that operators receive adequate instructions on safety, health, and environmental policies and practices.
* Emphasizes accident prevention as a part of the daily work plan and provides leadership in following safe practices.
* Interacts with Laboratory Shift Superintendent during emergency or abnormal activities and for event reporting.
* B.S. in engineering
* 5 or more years of nuclear operations experience, two of which must be at the HFIR,
* An equivalent combination of education and applicable experience may be considered in place of a 4 year
* degree.
* Special Requirements:
* Ability to obtain and maintain qualification as Shift Supervisor on the HFIR, which requires a Senior Reactor
* Operator (SRO) certification as a prerequisite.
* Ability to receive and maintain a "L" DOE security clearance.
* Requires Radiological Worker II training as well as respirator qualification.
* This position requires rotating shift work. Some overtime may be required.
