Summary of Essential Job Duties:
The Grant & Contract Officer (GCO) is a professional representative of Cedars-Sinai and is responsible for accurate and comprehensive processing of clinical research contract awards in support of the Industry Sponsored Research Office (ISRO) within Sponsored Research and Funds Administration (SRFA). Works as a team member according to management direction. The GCO reports to the ISRO Manager and functions as an intregal part of the Clincal Research Team by providing quality service/support in the negotiation and set-up of clinical research. The Grant & Contract Officer is responsible for providing compliance review and approval of all industry funded budgets that support research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC). This entails the reconciliation of complex clinical trial, multi-visit budgets, and technical and professional medical fees with established fees schedules, Medicare Coverage Analysis, and Informed Consent Forms. The GCO must confirm Standard of Care Procedures vs. Research related procedures and assure that budgets are developed in compliance with Cedars-Sinai policy. Once studies are approved, the GCO manages ongoing monitoring of project status, working directly with study teams, PI and SRFA accountants to process continuations or modifications of contracts. The GCO provides guidance on contractual payment schedules to assure expenditures are consistent with payment terms. The GCO will negotiate Confidentiality Agreements and process modifications/amendments to existing clinical research contracts. As appropriate, the GCO will conduct preliminary reviews of draft contracts to determine any descrepancies with Master Agreements and/or templates. Additionally, the GCO will assist ISRO in developing internal reference material, in-service presentations and materials to enhance the Department Staff's and Principal Investigator's understanding and information related to the successful negotiation and administration of industry funded research. Major responsibilities include patient and helpful assistance to Principal Investigators (PI's), departmental staff and ISRO team members in preparation, submission, and management of research projects. As appropriate, the GCO will provide other support for ISRO and CSMC that may be required and/or assigned. The GCO will know and follow institutional and departmental policies and procedures and will also guide PIs and staff on policy as they apply to research administration.

Education Required:

Bachelor of Arts orBachelor of Science

Experience Required:

One (1) yeardemonstrated ability to independent administration of research grants andcontracts in a central administration office. Must have an informedworking knowledge of the policies and procedures of granting agencies as wellas purchasing, personnel and accounting systems. Analytical abilities toidentify and review problem situations, make independent decisions and/orrecommend solutions.
