We are currently seeking a Grant Writer to join our Federal Funds Management (FFM) team as we help our clients navigate complex funding landscapes and successfully identify and secure grant funds made available under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, and the 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act.

Our work spans numerous funding streams and policy areas, with a keen focus on helping our clients secure funding to make historic investments in resilience, climate, energy, housing, transportation, and other key industry sectors. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated track record of success in applying for and securing grants from a variety of sources and in-depth knowledge of the grant writing process.

This is a contract-based position that will be remotely based. Candidates will be identified as Independent Contractors and will be added to Hagerty's cadre on an as-needed basis. Candidates will have the opportunity to support one or more projects where they will provide grant writing and application development support.

The responsibilities of the Grant Writer include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with diverse clients to understand their local priorities, project goals, and unmet funding needs.
  • Conduct research to identify potential funding sources, including grant opportunities, funding trends, and emerging priorities in key industry sectors.
  • Monitor and track grant funding, ensuring compliance with application and reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Evaluate federal and other grant opportunities to determine eligibility and prepare grant overviews to communicate grant application requirements to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with client staff and their grant partners to gather information, data, documentation, letters of support and other back-up materials necessary for grant applications.
  • Write grant narratives and support documentation that supports a grant application.
  • Conduct the full range of activities required to prepare and submit timely and compelling grant applications, including developing project narratives, scopes, budgets, schedules, data visualizations, and other project design components.
  • Perform final quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) and validate necessary documentation is included in the application package prior to final approval and submission.

Candidates for the role of Grant Writer must possess the following qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree.
  • At least two (2) years of professional experience focused on grant writing and application development for the public or nonprofit sectors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex information.
  • Strong research and analytical skills to gather and synthesize relevant data for grant applications.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products (including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint).
  • Familiarity with grant management processes and procedures, including knowledge of laws and regulations governing the administration of federal awards.

Candidates for the role of Grant Writer may also have the following qualifications:
  • Experience developing a Benefit-Cost Analysis (BCA) and associated BCA narratives.
  • Experience with geospatial data and mapping software and generating custom maps, graphics, tables, and reports.
  • Background in emergency management, public health, resilience, climate, energy, housing, or transportation industry sectors.
  • Familiarity with the IIJA, IRA, the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, and the 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act grant programs.
