POSITION SUMMARY

The Daycare Substitute encourages the healthy intellectual and psychological growth of children in the absence of the Daycare Teacher and/or Daycare Director. The Substitute will teach and supervise children while also motivating them to use their mental capacities and exercise their imagination.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Follow a schedule of activities created by Teacher(s) and/or Director.
  2. Follow lesson plans and other curriculum that support a child's learning and development.
  3. Provide basic care to children.
  4. Use a wide range of teaching methods, including but not limited to stories, media, indoor/outdoor games, drawing, etc. to enhance the child's abilities and knowledge.
  5. Submit evaluations of children's performance to Teacher and/or Director to make sure they are on the right learning track.
  6. Communicate effectively with parents in conjunction with the Daycare Center Teachers and Director, updating them on the progress of their children as permitted.
  7. Identify behavioral problems and work with the Daycare Teachers and Director to determine the right course of action.
  8. Collaborate with Teachers, Aides, and additional Substitutes.
  9. Clean and sanitize the Daycare Center.
  10. Serve meals and snacks to children.
  11. Set up classroom and play areas daily.
  12. Adhere with teaching standards and safety regulations as established by all federal, state, and local guidelines.


Qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Must have ONE of the following requirements
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, education or child/youth development OR Child Development Associate Credential (preferred)
  • High School Diploma or GED with 1500 verified clock hours of experience in organized group activities for young children as verified by a former employer OR submit a written plan for Department approval to acquire at least three credit hours or 45 clock hours of training in administration, early childhood education, education, or child/youth development in a of six (6) months or less.

Age:
  • Must be 16 years of age or older.

Experience:
  • Previous experience as a Child Care/Daycare Teacher or Substitute preferred.

Licensure and Certification:
  • Valid Nebraska Teaching Certification preferred.
  • BLS/First Aide certification required
  • Safe With You certification required
    • Provided upon hire if needed


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Early childhood education and development, or related field.

Skills in:
  • Communication: to interact with children, parents, and colleagues effectively
  • Patience: to handle chaotic situations and respond appropriately
  • Creativity: to provide a fun and interactive environment for children
  • Organization: to plan daily activities and schedules
  • Decision Making: to make sound choices.
