Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Principal, the House Manager will own and drive the upkeep of the residential property, management of the property, organization of events, and care of the children.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The House Manager is expected to maintain the highest standards of care, maintenance, and cleanliness with regard to every aspect of assigned duties. The House Manager s primary duties include deep cleaning and organizing assigned areas, completing laundry, including properly washing sheets, making beds, preparing meals, and performing occasional errands. The House Manager must demonstrate professional judgment and bring all questions, concerns, problems, needs, or uncertainties immediately to the attention of the Homeowners.

General cleaning responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following items:

  • Ceilings, walls, woodwork, floors
  • Window coverings
  • Furnishings
  • Special equipment/appliances
  • Artwork and accessories
  • Lamps and lighting
  • Carpeting or other specialized floor coverings
  • Closets, cupboards, drawers, shelves and cabinets
  • Windows, sills and sashes inside and outside (with exceptions for accessibility and safety)
  • Specified exterior areas of the house
Areas of responsibility include but may not be limited to:
  • Libraries
  • Living rooms
  • Foyer/coat closet
  • Powder room/bathrooms
  • Dining room
  • Bedrooms
  • Main and service kitchens/ pantry/breakfast room
  • Hallways break room, guest rooms
  • Mudroom
  • Basement office/hallway
  • Laundry room
  • Specified back of the house areas
Additional responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Prepare meals for Principals and/or guests
  • Independently prepare basic hor d eourves, arrange fruit and or cheese platters, make sandwiches and/or salads for Principals and/or guests
  • 5-star quality laundering and care of fine clothing and linens
  • Assistance with preparation, care, and cleaning of guest areas
  • Assist with additional areas of the house in the absence of other staff members
  • Perform a variety of errands as needed
  • Assist with a variety of tasks when Principals entertain
  • Perform 5-star quality cleaning and handling of fine household furnishings, laundry, linens, art and accessories
  • Schedule flexibility depending on special needs of the Principals /household
  • Caring for Principals child(ren) including playing or supervising play, preparing and supervising meals, dressing/undressing, assisting with use of bathroom and/or pullups, giving baths or showers, and/or taking via car to/from school or activities.
  • Consistently demonstrate use of tact and discretion.
Knowledge/Experience:
  • Experience in residential cleaning and using cleaning solutions
  • Experience cooking and preparing meals
  • Experience in childcare
General Qualifications and Expectations:
  • Maintain uncompromised integrity, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Consistently maintain a pleasant, calm, quiet, and positive disposition
  • Consistently maintain a neat, clean appearance, aligned with household dress requirements
  • Must perform responsibilities in an efficient, unobtrusive manner; maintain professional conduct at all times
  • Must possess and demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to proper protocol and respect for privacy when Principals are in the residence
  • Must be hard-working, detailed-oriented, and a flexible team player
  • Must possess valid driver s license and automobile insurance coverage
  • Work Hours:
o Weekly schedule may vary/change depending on needs of Principals

o In general, 30-40 hours per week, Monday thru Friday

Technical/ Educational Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, preferred
  • Basic understanding and experience using computers
  • Must be able to navigate the internet and various online applications to order groceries, cleaning supplies, etc. and update and edit personnel information
o Must be able to routinely operate the following equipment: mops, brooms, vacuum cleaner, window squeegee, scrubber, step stool, small ladder, screwdriver and other miscellaneous hand tools
  • Equipment:


o Must be knowledgeable and skilled in the safe use and maintenance of cleaning fluids and tools
