This position primarily provides rotating weekend coverage on Friday and Saturday with a potential of additional weekday hours based on agency/department needs. This is a wage position without benefits, limited to 1,500 hours per year. **Responsibilities include:** Conducts security inspections and prepares reports Reports emergency situations and maintains documentation Checks for proper operation of physical plant equipment Assists visitors, including conducting background checks Fire safety compliance and education Assists maintenance in snow and ice removal during emergency periods Minimum Qualifications **Minimum Qualifications:** High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED ) Certificate. Certification as a School Security Officer from the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS ). Candidates who do not currently hold this certification must meet the criteria for certification including criminal clearance history requirements, minimum age requirement of 21 years, and completion of a DCJS approved course within 90 days of employment. Certification in the National Incident Management System (NIMS ) to levels required by the Crisis Management Plan. Candidates who do not hold this certification level must satisfy this requirement within 180 days of employment. Valid drivers license at the time of appointment (applicants with six demerits or more are ineligible) Current certification in First Aid and CPR or must be obtained per school policies Knowledge of the principles and practices of security Ability to interpret and apply safety and security regulations and react appropriately in emergency situations Ability to work independently, exhibiting a high level of independence Ability to train others in security and safety-related areas Knowledge of records management procedures sufficient to prepare and maintain accurate records for the purpose of mandated retention, investigations, evidence, confidentiality, and court testimony Ability to use computers and telecommunications equipment including word processing, databases, electronic mail, fire alarm systems, and security alarm systems Ability to perform and document Life Safety Inspections and Testing Must be willing to work various shifts to accommodate agency/department needs, which may include weekends and holidays. This includes immediate shift coverage and/or coordination of shift coverage during unforeseen events. Knowledge of fire and safety regulations, and related equipment preferred Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to lift 45-100 pounds, perform repetitive motion to include but not limited to standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking, running, bending, and climbing on various rough surfaces/terrain Must have the ability to tolerate various chemicals and weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of fire and safety regulations, and related equipment
