Hours: Up to 8 hours per week; no guaranteed number of hours. Flexible schedule; weekends required.

Summary

This is a position of considerable responsibility. Duties include supervising and motivating adult participants with special needs while caring for their safety and well-being.

Works under the general direction of the Adult Special Recreation Program Coordinator, Recreation Program Coordinator, and ultimately the Recreation Supervisor.
Duties

Discusses program ideas with the Adult Special Recreation Coordinator to meet the social needs of the participants.

Supervises and interacts with the program participants during the scheduled trips.

Travels with participants to scheduled trip locations and returns them to their homes using the Township passenger van or mini bus.

Checks all activity areas for foreseeable hazards.

Upholds proper discipline standards for themselves and participants at all times.

Utilizes activity time in an effective manner.

Teaches individual life skills in a group setting.

Maintains proper reports as required.

Maintains regular communications with the Adult Special Recreation Coordinator, Recreation Program Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor.

Demonstrates proficiency when performing emergency protocol.

Assumes responsibility for all equipment assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous experience and working knowledge of instructing adult participants with special needs.

CPR certification preferred.

Valid Class C driver's license preferred.

Good ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with participants, their families, supervisors, co-workers, members of the community, and the general public.

Good organizational skills.

Ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner.

Ability to work well with all age groups.

Ability to handle difficult situations in a diplomatic manner.

Ability to think clearly and effectively under pressure.

Ability to solve issues promptly, efficiently and effectively.

Ability to enforce all rules and regulations.

Flexibility with work schedule.

Knowledge of area events that would appeal to the program's participants.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for a minimum of 1 up to 8 hours, sit for a minimum of 1 up to 8 hours and walk for a minimum to of 1 up to 8 hours per workday.

Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds of materials.

Ability to reach, bend, kneel, and crouch, constantly throughout the workday.

Ability to perform job functions in all types of weather conditions and temperatures.

This position is not eligible for Township-paid fringe benefits.
