Summary

The Building Maintenance Technician I is a semi-skilled position. This position performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks, maintenance, and repair of county facilities and equipment. This position is under the direct supervision of the Building Maintenance Director and/or his/her designee.

Performs semi-skilled building and grounds maintenance and repairs

  • Perform maintenance and repairs to county buildings, facilities, and associate items including furniture assemble, painting, floor maintenance, and minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities, grounds, and equipment, replacing necessary items on a regular schedule.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs to HVAC equipment, including but not limited to heated and chilled water pumps.
  • Perform various grounds maintenance: turf mowing, weed control, lawn sprinkler system, snow removal, and deicing as needed.
  • Respond to facility emergencies including but not limited to waterline leaks and sprinklers.
  • Operate and maintain power equipment (e.g., saws, drill presses, sanders, mowers).
  • Assist custodial staff and other departments on an as needed basis.
  • Trimming and edging of trees, bushes, and lawns.
  • Network cable installation and termination as needed.

Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written English language skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in basic computer systems and software (e.g., email, timekeeping software, work order inputs)
  • Ability to perform a quantity of work that should consistently deliver a quantity and quality that meets productivity standards established by the essential functions task list for assigned areas.
  • Ability to take accurate measurements.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and professional demeanor.
  • Knowledge of general building cleaning procedures.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to building and grounds maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of the use and care of hand tools and power equipment necessary to perform various building maintenance and repairs.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to obtain first aid certification
  • Ability to obtain CPR certification
  • Ability to obtain Defensive Driver certification
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Subject to call out shifts
  • Occasional overtime
  • Regular and reliable attendance onsite at work location
