WELDER/FABRICATOR - 2ND SHIFT

Summary /Objective
Sets up and operates welding and fabricating equipment, including welders (MIG, TIG, STICK) shears, brakes, saws, rollers, iron workers, CNC cutting systems, etc.

  • Set up and operate a wide variety of welding and fabricating equipment with high level of skill & expertise.
  • Achieves production, quality, and safety standards by following standard operating procedures, blueprints, routing documents, & observing equipment operating conditions and making adjustments to maximize output.
  • Detect malfunctions and make machine/programming adjustments to achieve quality and production standards.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of problems beyond the scope of responsibility of the position.
  • Will assist in the training of new operators. Coordinates the efforts with other departments to comply with procedures that assure finished products meet customer expectations.
  • Assist other operators as needed to meet production and quality standards.
  • Keep accurate time, production, and maintenance records.
  • Will cross train on a multitude of trades and equipment to provide greater flexibility in the entire operation.
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities to reduce costs, increase productivity and coordinates the testing of new products to achieve operating targets.
  • Maintain essential inventory items per established procedures.
  • Will assist Leader/Supervisor with testing new products, ordering supplies, etc.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance in compliance with preventative/predictive schedules.
  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports.
  • Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Lift, Move, Push, or pull material up to 50lbs in weight.
  • Endure long periods of standing.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

This job operates in a manufacturing shop environment. Exposure to noise, chemicals, and materials consistent with a manufacturing environment is constant. Exposure to intense light, heat, and chemicals related to welding. This is a physically demanding position; maintaining the physical strength to lift materials up to 50 pounds, endure prolonged standing, dexterity, and stamina is necessary. Exposure to intense heat, and intense light created by the arc.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time or part-time position. This position is assigned to either a day or evening shift. Overtime work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

This position requires up minimal travel, if any, between businesses or to training sessions.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School diploma. Equivalent work experience and demonstrated competency may substitute for a degree.
  • Welding Certification Required: GMAW 3G/4G in A-36.
  • Good planning, organization and follow up skills required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate welding competency in carbon, stainless, aluminum and exotic metals.
  • Must have the demonstrated ability to safely operate all material handling equipment, including fork trucks, overhead cranes, jib cranes, battery magnets, hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Two-year degree in or equivalent skilled trades program
  • Additional technical training in blueprints, metallurgy, mechanical drawings.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Must submit pre-employment drug screening and background check authorization
