The Materials Scheduler coordinates the releases of materials from our suppliers in support of our modern manufacturing facility located just east of the US 12 - US 31 Bypass, 10 miles North of South Bend. Job Title: Materials Scheduler Reports To: Materials Group Leader

Location: Niles, MI Department: Materials

Employees Supervised: Stores Area (Indirectly)

Purpose: Prepare and monitor releases (firm and forecast) of required material from direct and indirect suppliers according to customer requirements. Continuously analyze and maintain accurate min/max levels for direct and indirect materials, including safety stock, while maintaining inventory budget/targets

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain open communication and follow-up with suppliers, manufacturing and support personnel, to assure manufacturing and inventory plans are clearly understood and fulfilled. Monitor on-time delivery reports and daily inventory coverage reports for effective coverage of production plans. Develop, maintain and monitor inventory levels to budget/forecast while ensuring zero (0) production downtime due to material shortages.
  • Manage accurate SAP and Direct Material Planning tool parameters, including but not limited to material master records, BOMs and routings.
  • Partner with the Purchasing Department to develop and improve supply base delivery performance, including ASN, packaging and labeling, utilizing the SDIN system for incident reporting.
  • Oversee the indirect stores area for chemical preparation required for production.
  • Partner with 3rd Party Logistic (3PL) providers to schedule transportation for needed production, both domestic and international, while leading & supporting cost-reduction activities. Partner with appropriate resources to forecast inbound transportation costs, consumable/indirect materials, packaging supplies and packaging repairs.
  • Create purchase requisitions for material, coordinating volume and pricing data, for fiscal year blanket purchase order to supply base. Prepare releases and maintain inventory levels for expendable packaging needed for production and customer demand. Receive indirect material against packing lists as required and support Accounts Payable for invoice discrepancy resolution
  • Implement and support lean manufacturing methods, such as Plan For Every Part (PFEP), Kanban, and Supermarkets to drive continuous improvement in material flow.
  • Support new model development run requirements and launch ramp-up production plans. Support engineering changes and program build-outs, as it relates to purchased material to eliminate material obsolescence.
  • Team with Inventory Control Coordinator to improve inventory accuracy and to coordinate annual physical inventory. Maintain accurate records and documentation for historical audit purposes, including quality systems and financial minimum controls.
  • Serve as back-up for tasks of other Materials Department personnel as required. Maintain a collaborative and positive working relationship with all levels of the organization.

Scope/Dimensions:
  • Single site manufacturing location with 3 shift operation, supplying finished goods to Tier 1 Automotive OEM and Tier 2 customers.
  • Relies on experience and understanding of supply chain and purchasing processes, forecasting, and written customer requirements to determine proper actions.
  • Demands and priorities need adjusted regularly to provide a high level of service under tight timelines to several customers internally or externally.

Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • PC proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, pivot tables and advanced formula design/use.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • A self starter with leadership ability, good interpersonal skills and a demonstrated interpersonal ability, ability to communicate verbally and in writing, aptitude and willingness to learn all site systems. Must be flexible in schedule (able to work all shifts).
  • Good knowledge of plant operations
  • Must possess solid analytical skills in forecasting and anticipating production needs and capabilities. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables and deal with a variety of changing situations under stress
  • Strong interpersonal skills requiring the ability to resolve conflicting interests and obtain cooperation
  • Ability to influence and negotiate to win/win solutions
Qualifications Desired:
  • APICS certification
  • Proficient use of SAP or other similar MRP system.
  • Previous experience in the automotive industry as a tier-one supplier
  • Six Sigma yellow belt or related certification

Physical Environment:
  • While performing the duties of this position, the associate frequently works around moving machines/parts in an industrial environment. The associate occasionally works around industrial chemicals and other industrial hazards requiring PPE. Regular and predictable attendance at the manufacturing plant is required.
