POSITION SUMMARY:

Coaches members towards a healthier lifestyle in a one on one setting while providing the Y experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides individualized in-depth training regimens to assist members in reaching their fitness goals.
  2. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members and guests; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
  3. Administers fitness evaluations for members (upon request) which include body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness, flexibility, muscular strength, and muscular endurance.
  4. Records data accurately after each session in Personal Training Log and Individual's Log
  5. Embrace fitness lifestyle and endeavors to increase fitness knowledge.
  6. Works as a wellness coach on the fitness floor as needed per branch.
  7. Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  8. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  9. Takes on any additional responsibility as assigned by the director/coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Certifications: Current National Personal Training certification through one of the following: Y-USA, ACSM, AFFA, ACE, NASM, ISSA.
  2. Minimum of 1 year of experience preferred


WORKING CONDITIONS:
  1. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including lifting, carrying, pulling, standing and walking. (up to 50 lbs.)
  2. Ability to safely and effectively "spot" personal training clients up to clients working one rep max weight. (weight will vary with the client)
  3. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  4. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
