Job Title: Network Support Specialist

**SUMMARY**

Installs, configures, and troubleshoots local area computer networks and associated assemblies by performing the following duties.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

* Performs analysis of network needs and contributes to design of network architecture, integration, and installation.

* Installs and maintains local and wide area network hardware and software, including all servers (physical and virtual), switches, peripherals, wiring, and terminations.

* Evaluates network hardware, software requirements, and capabilities and makes recommendations.

* Performs network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose network problems.

* Upgrades network hardware and software components as required.

* Establishes and maintains network users, user environments, directories, and security.

* Address access rights to resources on the network.

* Researches and evaluates new technologies.

* Installs, upgrades and configures network printing, directory structures, rights, security, software and file services.

* Coordinates installation of hardware and software, including updates.

* Monitors and maintains network stability.

* Monitors network security. Analyzing and reporting security breaches or attempted breaches.

* Communicates and coordinates network schedule, backups, and downtime to users.

* Coordinates third-party maintenance for network hardware and software.

* Prepares and maintains documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts.

* Assist other IT team members with computer hardware, software, and troubleshooting.

* Assist with computer lab maintenance, including hardware and software updates.

* Assist with the help desk for students and employees.

* Assist with events that require technology.

* Represent the college in local and state organizations and meetings, and maintain contacts with outside agencies as appropriate.

* Punctual and regular attendance is required. Work hours are 7:45 a.m. 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. Position may require additional evening and/or weekend hours.

* Perform other related duties which may be required by the IT Director (related duties as required are duties that may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but that are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employees class of work).

**OTHER:**

**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE**

* Bachelors degree in Computer Technology or related field.

* Two years of successful work experience in network administration required (preferably in a Windows Server environment).

* Ability to provide basic network support services to users (such as, the installation of PCs onto the network, configuring network interface cards and client software, and installing and supporting network printers and queues.)

* Ability to configure and maintain network appliances such as firewalls, routers, switches, physical and virtual servers, and load balancers.

* Ability to communicate, express, understand, and develop ideas both verbally and in writing with diverse user groups.

* Thorough working knowledge of computer and networking concepts in a variety of operating systems and communications protocols.

* Ability to understand and utilize network optimization, customization, and diagnostic tools.

* Ability to design, install, and support network systems for end user applications.

* Ability to troubleshoot network problems and devise a course of action to correct the problem.

**MATHEMATICAL SKILLS** Minimum mathematical ability associated with this job:

* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure.

* Perform the four operations with like common and decimal fractions.

* Compute percentages.

Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. Lifting items up to 20 pounds in weight.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**

Work is primarily in an office/school environment. Noise levels usually are moderate.
