Bismarck, ND North Dakota Council on the Arts (NDCA)announces the reopening of the search for qualified candidates for afulltime, benefited Executive Director position. The Agency has decided to extend the application period to ensure the selection of the most experienced candidate to fill this crucial role. The new hire will replace current Executive Director Kim Konikow who is retiring in May 2024 after over six years of service with the Council.
The Executive Directors role includes:
Champion policies and practices that empower a diverse, inclusive, and equitable state where cultural equity is visible to all
Clearly articulate and advocate for mission, vision, and strategic goals
Demonstrate ethical leadership and fiscal stewardship
Testify biannually before the Legislature in support of budget and strategic plan with an understanding of state financial systems
Maintain deep understanding of the strengths and needs of North Dakota arts and have an understanding of, or familiarity with, Midwest culture
Act as the public face and voice for NDCA and a primary advocate for the arts in North Dakota
Professionally manage operations and assigned grant programs
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Communicate effectively with the NDCA board of directors, staff, and contractors
Preference given to degrees in arts administration or public administration with an arts emphasis, and 4 years of professional leadership/management experience. Ideal candidates should have previous experience in state government, public speaking, supervising, arts management, grant writing, budget development and human resources. Most importantly, the applicant must be passionate, and have a broad understanding and appreciation of the arts. Travel in and out of state is required.
The Executive Director is an unclassified, appointed position which reports directly to the board of directors. The position includes a full range of employee benefits, with an annual starting salary of $90,000-$98,000.
