Are you looking for a part time position and like doing light to moderate building maintenance? The City of Wylie's Recreation Center is seeking a Guest Services Specialist to do just that! The selected candidate will work in partnership with other employees, departments/divisions, external entities and the public to deliver effective and innovative recreation services. As well as provide safe, healthy, and entertaining services to the guests at assigned Wylie Recreation Facility. This is accomplished by providing good customer service, supervising and directing staff, serving as the manager on duty when no full-time staff are present, and performing clerical duties, and planning and producing programs and special events.

Supervision is provided by the assigned Recreation Programmer and assigned Recreation Supervisor.

This position is eligible to participate in the retirement program TMRS (Texas Municipal Retirement System).

Essential Job Functions

  • Supervises staff by providing training and direction; providing information about changes or improvements to customer service standards; providing instruction about rules, regulations, and policies; and acknowledging staff performance.
  • Provides clerical support by creating, scanning and saving forms and reports; entering employee time and creating discrepancy reports; oversees the creation of staff schedules; maintains storage systems; and files incident reports.
  • Performs data entry and ensures guests fill out and complete appropriate paperwork, ensuring information is accurately entered into the computer system and taking note of any special needs or accommodations.
  • Monitors the open play areas by distributing equipment; ensures that staff are walking the areas every hour to check hallways, classrooms, outdoor areas, kitchens, locker rooms, restrooms, doors, and equipment; picks up trash and provides upkeep as needed; records all maintenance activities; and sets up equipment and supplies for programs.
  • Maintains a record of the number of guests in the facility by taking a count every hour.
  • Leads organized activities by providing instruction and direction to guests in a variety of programs.
  • Performs guest supervision by ensuring safety measures are taken and the needs of the guests are met, and recording and attending to any inquiries that occur.
  • Performs maintenance and cleaning by sweeping and mopping floors, wiping down and sanitizing furniture and equipment, washing equipment on a regular basis, taking out trash, ensuring work area is tidy, and providing regular maintenance on equipment.
  • Performs administrative duties by administering waivers, entering them into the ActiveNet system, and filing them appropriately; completes sign-in and sign-out sheets; verifies waivers and passes; answers telephones; and distributes name tags or other identification.
  • Oversees special events and decorations by participating in the planning process, gathering needed supplies, assisting and leading special events, and decorating seasonally.
  • Provides customer service and guest relations by responding to guest and staff phone calls and face-to-face inquiries; assists guests and staff in various areas of the facilities; engages in conflict resolution with guests and staff; assists guests with a variety of equipment when necessary; and supervises participants during programs.
  • Enforces all Park and Recreation program and facility rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Actively participates in staff training, meetings, and in-service programs.
  • Operates a motor vehicle in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
  • Performs as a responsible steward of the public trust and strives for excellence in public service, enhancing the quality of life for all.
  • Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers and others.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.


Minimum Job Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum two years' experience preferred; the ideal candidate should have a proven record of working with the public for recreational programs. Must be 18 years of age or older. Valid Driver's License. Must have Texas Driver's License within 60 days of hire. Must obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within six months of hire. Must maintain required certifications/licenses throughout time in position.

Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses as outlined by Emergency Management after hire.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

PHYSICAL STRENGTH REQUIRED:

When assigned to Maintenance, Resource Tech, Bus Driver, Climbing Wall: Must be able to climb stairs frequently while carrying items such as tubs and boxes. Heavy: Exerting 50 - 100 lbs occasionally; 10 - 25 lbs frequently; or up to 10 lbs consistently.
