Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for general maintenance duties which include upkeep, repair, inspection, and improvement of AACI facilities and equipment.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled preventive and routine maintenance work, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, general mechanical repairs, carpentry and related trades work.
  • Perform daily walk-through/examination of facility, grounds and equipment.
  • Inspect buildings, electrical systems, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe, well-maintained conditions, identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Complete a variety of routine services and repair operations to the facility itself, common equipment, furnishings, and fixtures.
  • Receive, manage, and process work order requests.
  • Operate a variety of power and hand tools to complete jobs.
  • Perform a variety of locksmith duties; install, repair, and replace locks on doors.
  • Prepare workstations for new hires.
  • Act as liaison between employees and any outside contractors needed to resolve specialized problems.
  • Maintain inventory and storage of tools, supplies, and equipment; recommend tools, supplies, and equipment for purchase.
  • Draft and implement preventive maintenance schedules for buildings and equipment.
  • Maintain facility logs.
  • Perform all facilities functions in accordance with NEC, NFPA and OSHA regulations and local city codes.
  • Participate on emergency preparedness planning team.
  • May be assigned as an Emergency Service Responder as required.
  • Complete other duties and related projects as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Two years or more of general maintenance and trade skills experience.
  • Experience with and ability to perform the duties described above.
  • License in general maintenance, electrical or plumbing preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of common tools and equipment used in carpentry, painting, electrical service, plumbing and related activities.
  • Ability to use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Basic proficiency in commonly used office software.
  • Ability to communicate well with people of diverse cultural, professional, and experiential backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work on weekends, holidays and irregular hours as needed.
  • Ability to maintain a valid California driver license, current personal auto insurance, and an MVR sufficient to maintain insurability under agency auto liability policies.

Working conditions

The job is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings and environments that have a risk of accident/injury, such as working around moving parts, machines, or with irritant chemicals. Occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. Occassionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, mechanical hazards, explosive hazards, burn hazards, chemical hazards. The job requires following basic safety precautions and the use of protective clothing or gear. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Driving is an essential function of this position.

Occasionally climbs ladders. Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
