**Assistant Mechanic**
**Transportation/Mechanics - Detroit, MI - Full Time**
**A Carter Lumber Assistant Mechanic** is responsible for performing daily repairs, emergency and preventative maintenance on all trucks, trailers, forklifts and other equipment. This is accomplished by diagnosing equipment issues and performing repairs in a timely and cost effective manner, ensuring our vehicles are DOT compliant. A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary to this position.
Please note; the hired mechanic needs to have his/her own tools
This is a full time position; eligible for benefits, Salary commensurate with experience
**Requirements to be considered for this position:**
* 3-5 years post qualification experience
* Extensive knowledge in the repair and maintenance of Heavy diesel engines
* Strong Diagnostics work background; ability to troubleshoot and accurately diagnose work
* Superior time management skills, attention to detail
* Exceptional verbal communication and organizational skills
* Dependable, responsible team player with a positive attitude
* Able to work independently in a team environment
**Responsibilities of the Position:**
1. Equipment Maintenance & Repair
* Responsible for maintaining and repairing all trucks, trailers, forklifts and other equipment.
* Diagnose mechanical problems and ensures that they are repaired in a proper and cost effective manner.
* Prioritizes and sets goals based on importance of project that needs attention.
* Inspects and documents the maintenance performed on equipment.
2. Safety
* Adheres to safety requirements when operating tools and equipment.
* Ensures safety functions on equipment are operating properly.
* Handles material in a safe and appropriate manner.
* Reports any defects or safety issues immediately.
* Completes required safety training.
