Job Details

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)-Charge Nurse works in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Manager to support the daily operations of the clinic. The LPN-Charge Nurse has the responsibility of supervising the workflow between MA and providers. This position provides a wide variety of nursing services to the clinic patients under the direct supervision of a registered professional nurse or physician. Such services can be therapeutic or diagnostic procedures and/or administration of medication.

II. Educational Requirements

  • Current Illinois LPN License. Graduate from a state approved course of study and successful completion of a

pharmacology course.

III. Experience & Training

  • Two - five years of experience in a health care environment; preferably in an outpatient setting. Requires the

knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to all age groups.

IV. Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager and indirect supervision of the Director

of Nursing and/or Chief Medical Officer.

  • Provides daily managing of Lead Medical Assistants and Medical Assistants
  • Performs any or all duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the Clinical Nurse Manager and/or

Physician (Provider) and with the scope of the Nurse Practice Act, FFHC and Nursing policies and procedures.

  • Utilizes the educational assessment of the patient and family to appropriately implement, evaluate and

document patient and family education.

  • Assists the Provider with patient examinations or diagnostic procedures
  • Assists with the collection of specimens, phlebotomy, and EKG
  • Adheres to and documents all aspects of patient care according to FFHC policies and procedures
  • Performs special procedures, i.e. ear wax removal, breathing treatment, etc
  • Maintains orderly environment in clinical areas assuring adequate supplies in compliance with regulations
  • Administers medication and immunization under the supervision of the clinical nurse manager or Health Care

Provider.

  • Provides telephone and in person triaging of medically related problems or requests
  • Monitors, reviews, and acts upon (if necessary) daily incoming patient results for abnormalities, i.e.. lab, x-ray,

hemocult slides, etc.

  • Is accountable for communicating all changes in patient's biophysical and emotional status to the Provider
  • Utilizes appropriate patient care protocol relating to the physical, psychological, and development needs of all

age groups.

  • Consistently communicates with the Clinical Nurse Manager, team members, and providers to enhance

quality of patient care and ambulatory care activities.

  • Incorporates cost-effective measures into practice to assure proper use of time, supplies, and personnel
  • Contributes to creating a work climate that encourages positive staff morale, motivation, and

commitment for all who participate in the care of patients.

  • Follows verbal and written directions and responds appropriately to constructive feedback
  • Actively participates in staff meetings. Assists with the orientation of new or temporary employees
