** Area Accounting Coordinator - Marcus Hotels & Resorts**

Marcus Hotels & Resorts' Milwaukee Market of Hotels is seeking an Area Accounting Coordinator who stablishes financial status by developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information; implement and monitor process improvements and financial controls; provide counsel and guidance to management and accounting staff.
**Key Responsibilities - Overview:**
* Serve as back-up for the Area Controller and provide support and oversight to the field accounting staff and liaison for all MHR accounting requests as needed and/or during his/her absence.
* Assist in production of daily, weekly, period, quarterly, and annual financial reports
+ Completing various reports as required by accounting management depending on the needs of hotel operations
+ Review, verify, record and control all capital projects or expenses as defined
* Accounts Receivable duties to include:
+ Provides regular client account status reports as well as A/R aging reports
+ Prepare group commission payment request upon final settlement of group billing
+ Create new client accounts following prescribed extension of credit and deposit rules
+ Continuously improve A/R process for maximum effectiveness and efficiency
+ Monthly close duties to include but not limited to production of all needed accounts receivable related reporting and research as needed by accounting management and / or department heads
* Ensure external and internal controls and policies are followed
+ Ensure maintenance of all daily filing of documents in accordance with published Record Retention policy
+ Implement, monitor, enhance and enforce all accounting policies and procedures
+ Assist with preparation and presentation of training documentation to ensure policies are followed
+ Assist with asset management tracking, project completion status, process associated invoices in accordance with corporate capital policies and procedures
+ Ensure that Audit Trail is evident throughout all tasks
* Provide assistance with daily review of hotel / restaurant daily revenue and statistical reporting
+ Responsible for a working knowledge of all property management systems (PMS) and all point of sales systems (POS).
+ Communicate both written and orally with affiliated departments on variances, statistics and exceptions to policy and procedures.
+ Respond to questions relating to these systems and assist in error correction.
+ Liaison to night audit staff for questions / challenges with systems, duties or reporting assignments.
+ Identify system conflicts and directly resolve these conflicts with approval of system change documentation approved by accounting management.
+ Identify and present process and system improvements to accounting management.
* Monthly closing duties to include but not limited to participation in inventories, production of all entities journals and accruals and research as needed by accounting management and / or department heads
* Identify, present and assist with the installation of approved Systems & Controls process improvements
* Other Duties as assigned
**POSITION REQUIREMENTS:**
* College degree preferred; working knowledge of financial statements and GAAP concepts
* 2-3 years accounting / finance experience in the hospitality industry preferred; property level experience highly desired
* Regular travel between downtown Milwaukee locations
* Must have strong work ethics, be well organized and a self-starter
* Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material
* Strong problem solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills
* Strong excel skills with a proven ability to work on complex spreadsheets
* Previous experience with property management and point of sale systems commonly used in hotel industry highly desired
* Knowledge of enterprise-level accounting software systems (Peoplesoft preferred)
* Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
* Willingness to work a flexible schedule in order to meet business deadlines

* Excellent critical thinking; able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
* Performs work in well-organized, self-directed manner with ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple tasks
* Ability to project manage, delegate, train, audit processes
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Familiarity with local, state & federal; sales & use tax and labor law
