Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $17.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application)


This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services - Murdoch.

Murdoch Developmental Center is currently accepting applications for Youth Program Education Assistant I's. Youth Program Education Assistant I's provide direct support and facilitate daily programming activities for intellectually/developmentally disabled children, teens, and young adults who exhibit extreme behavioral challenges. Job duties include but are not limited to:
Providing supervision and ensuring the safety of individuals
Assisting in educational and/or vocational programming
Facilitating indoor/outdoor leisure activities and encouraging participation
Crisis intervention which includes de-escalation of aggressive individuals and, at times, physical interventions
Facilitate goals in areas of grooming, hygiene, dining, and residential skills to promote independence Participate in Community outings
Assisting individuals in areas of daily living skills while promoting their independence
Transportation when needed for school, outings, appointments, etc.
Writing monthly progress notes for goals and recording behavior data
Meal preparation and following nutrition guidelines Coaching in areas of social skills, community safety awareness, problem-solving

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or mental illness
Working knowledge of basic health care, hygiene, and safety
Proven ability to communicate effectively and follow both oral and written instructions
Proven ability to report information both orally and in writing
Current North Carolina State driver's license
Ability to obtain and maintain all facility-required training (CPI, CPR, First Aid, and other job-related training)

Management Preferences:
Previous experience providing support to individuals who exhibit extreme behavioral challenges that may escalate to physically aggressive behavior
Experience in utilizing de-escalation strategies with individuals
Demonstrated ability to implement behavior support plans
Prior experience in assisting individuals in educational and/or vocational programming

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate s degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications As required by the facility, CPR certification and listing as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation are required prior to providing direct patient care.
