Working Title College of Natural & Health Sciences Adjunct Faculty Role Title Adjunct Professor - 01011 Hiring Range Rank and salary will be commensurate with attained degree and related experience for faculty teaching/research Location Chesterfield - 041 Job Description Virginia State University (VSU ), a public, comprehensive 1890 Land Grant institution and HBCU (Historically Black College/University), invites applications for Adjunct Faculty positions in multiple Academic Degree and Certificate Programs. This position announcement seeks to establish a pool of applicants that may be used in the future as adjunct teaching positions become available. Completed applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and considered as vacancies occur. VSU offers 36 undergraduate degree programs, 17 graduate degree programs, 2 doctoral degree programs and 8 certificate programs in its six Academic Colleges: College of Agriculture, Reginald F. Lewis College of Business, College of Education, College of Engineering and Technology, College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the College of Natural and Health Sciences. Teach up to 9 credit hours (in-person, online via synchronous or asynchronous modalities) per academic semester and provide regular office hours to meet the student needs and promote student success. This teaching position is limited to one-year contract but may be considered for an additional year. Minimum Qualifications Masters degree in the teaching field or a masters degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the teaching field. Proficiency to teach courses in the following areas: biology, chemistry, psychology and nursing. To teach nursing courses, the applicant must hold an unencumbered Virginia nursing license, a Masters degree in nursing, and certification in online teaching/learning. Must demonstrate effective and engaging teaching skills. Must have the ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population. Proficiency and willingness to adapt to new and emerging pedagogies in the classroom. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D is preferred. Prior teaching experience in a higher education environment is highly preferred. Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g. Banner/Blackboard) with an ability to use technology to enhance the teaching and educational experience. Demonstrated ability to, assess and align student outcomes within courses or programs. Special Requirements Selected applicants will be subject to a background check as a condition of employment.
