Reporting structure: Reports to Vice President of Operations

Job title and brief description: The Director of Purchasing oversees all buying of materials and supplies for production and business operation. This position will work with existing vendors for contract and price negotiations, as well as source and negotiate new vendor contracts. This position will work with operations to track trends in inventory levels and provide insight for improving inventory structure.

Qualifications:

  • 4-year Degree required; Operations Management or Business Degree preferred.
  • 7 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • 3 years of experience leading, planning, and directing cross-functional teams in a manufacturing setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products; experience with Epicor and One Stream preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading organizational development initiatives and change management activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understands and applies standard project management methodologies.


Primary tasks:

  • Evaluate and develop strategic supplier relationships, negotiate contracts with new and existing vendors, and implement systems to track supplier performance.
  • Monitor and maintain acceptable levels of inventory on purchased items across production and administration; develop system to increase responsiveness of material demands.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and perform quality and system surveys for potential suppliers and continually evaluate current suppliers; Evaluate and qualify back-up suppliers in case of supplier performance issues.
  • Assist the operations teams by expediting purchased and in-process parts and orders to assure on-time delivery of products.
  • Implements procurement practices that are aligned with business goals, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Prepares and reviews reports, budgets, forecasts, and other documents related to purchasing activities and performance.
  • Works closely with other departments, management, and cross-functional teams to effectively meet the needs of the business and deliver key results.
