The Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics (AEDE) within The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences seeks a dynamic and creative Communication and Marketing Specialist. This individual will develop and manage comprehensive communication and marketing strategies for AEDE's extension, teaching, and research programs, amplifying its presence on local, state, national, and international levels. Reporting to the Department Chair, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will lead efforts in media

relations, brand awareness, and strategic communication planning, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and priorities. They will collaborate closely with faculty, staff, students, and external

stakeholders to promote the department's activities, achievements, and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy development and implementation for marketing and communications:

* Develop and implement a comprehensive and creative marketing and communications plan for AEDE's extension, teaching, and research programs, covering all areas of specialization in applied economics, agribusiness, and sustainability.

* Stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and technologies in media and communications, applying them as appropriate to enhance AEDE's visibility and engagement.

* Collaborate with other units within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, as well as external partners, to leverage resources and amplify the department's communication and marketing efforts.

Outreach communication and engagement:

Plan, promote, and help execute AEDE outreach activities, including seminars, conferences, and extension programs, utilizing both virtual and in-person formats to engage diverse audiences.

Marketing and communications for AEDE's research and education programs:

* Collaborate with faculty to develop and implement promotional strategies for research and teaching activities, showcasing their expertise and contributions.

* Work with AEDE student services staff to develop effective communications materials for student recruitment, alumni relations, and student engagement.

* Serve as the primary liaison with media outlets, journalists, and bloggers, coordinating interviews, and managing media coverage of AEDE events and initiatives.

* Manage and curate content for the AEDE website, newsletter, blog, and social media platforms, ensuring timely and engaging communication with current and prospective students, alumni, faculty, staff, industry partners, policymakers, and the public.

Annual reporting:

Assist department leadership with annual reporting efforts, highlighting the impact of AEDE's integrated teaching, research, and outreach programs.

Carry out other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in communication, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's degree desired.

* Minimum of 4 years of experience in communication, marketing, or public relations, preferably in a higher education or research environment.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with superior attention to detail.

* Strong creative and strategic thinking abilities with the capacity to generate innovative ideas and solutions.

* Demonstrated proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including content management systems, social media management tools, and analytics software.

* Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

* Knowledge of agriculture, environmental issues, and/or economics preferred.

The salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
