Under the Direction of the Assistant Director for Clinical Development and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Women's Health Nurse Coordinator supports patient care, throughput and clinical operations for the Ob/GYN, Urogynecology and Perinatal Ultrasound Diagnostic Clinics.

Specific Duties Are as Follows:

  • Trains all staff on department pre-visit planning protocols
  • Conducts telephone triage, provides professional nursing triage services, may advise patient using an evidence-based Maternal Fetal Medicine Index (MFTI) triage resource tool/ triage algorithms
  • Manages throughput for urogynecology procedures
  • Trains staff and manages competencies for urogynecology procedures
  • Manages patient throughput for Department Clinical Trials
  • Collaborates with PDUC Clinic Manager and Nurse Manager for Departmental improvement projects
  • Collaborates with physician/medical residents as appropriate to determine action plan / escalation for OB patients
  • Notifies OB Triage/OB Emergency/Labor and Delivery, through SBAR format
  • Documents telephone triage call in the EMR.
  • Manages Medication Refills process
  • Reviews patient EMR for prescribed medication indication / history
  • Confirms medication prescription to ensure it is the right medication, dosage, and frequency reviews allergies / changes in medical history
  • Contacts patient to schedules appointment if required for refill
  • Completes refill request to physician in EMR
  • Administer approved medications as per Howard University, FPP Policy 4
  • Documents / scans all relevant information in EMR.
  • Other duties as assigned
Education
  • Registered RN - Required
  • DC License - Required
  • BSN, MSN or MHSA, MPH or equivalent - Preferred
  • Certified in Women's Health specialty either, Ob/GYN, Urogynecology or Oncology -Preferred
  • 2+ years experience in an academic health system - Preferred
  • 3+ years ambulatory nursing experience or 2 years inpatient experience on a Women's Health Unit - Required
