OVERVIEW:

The Registered Nurse (RN-Urology) renders professional nursing care to patients at Associated Urological Specialists, LLC. RN's provides specialty nursing patient care in an environment where quality, respect and compassion are at the center of all we do. RN's assume the role of patient advocate and liaison between the physicians and patient. This position will also demonstrate good judgement in conveying patient information to practitioners at all locations while maintaining patient/staff/and practice information confidentiality. RN's will participate in the multi-disciplinary process of providing care and treatment to patients and provides clinical support and technical assistance to the professional medical and other staff.

Although RN's work primarily with physicians, they will also work in conjunction with Physician Assistant's or higher-level Nurses (Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners), Front Office and Scheduling staff to ensure complete, efficient and excellent patient care.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/NATURE AND SCOPE: The Registered Nurse will have the following accountabilities (but are not limited to):

1. Ensures the effective delivery of competent care to assigned patients

2. Assists with procedures performed in the AUS Urological Offices

3. Takes the nursing history, summarizes data, and states nursing diagnoses and patient care needs

4. Observes and records signs, symptoms and behaviors

5. Executes plan of care for all assigned patients; safely and properly administers medications and treatments

6. Performs admission, discharge and transfer procedures, and assists others with patient activities and care

7. Notifies appropriate nursing and medical staff to changes in the patient's status

8. Performs duties and assumes responsibility for care of assigned patients

9. Documents nursing care in all assigned patient records

10. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of records at all times

11. Evaluates care given including the patient's response

12. Reassesses and documents any proposed revision of care and desired outcomes

13. Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy of physiology, patient care standards as dictated by the nursing licensing board of the State of Illinois, and standard knowledge of basic CPT and ICD-10 coding

14. Under the supervision of the provider, gives results of pathology, radiology, laboratory, and other diagnostic tests

15. Accurately records and maintains documentation of telephone encounters and on-site patient conversations, including chief complaint, verbal history of present illness with date of onset, symptoms including pain, bleeding and retention assessment, update of medications and allergies (if necessary), and limited physical examination, adhering to scope of practice guidelines of the State of Illinois

16. Communicates with new patients as to the severity of patient problem and, in conjunction with the provider, conveys urgency of appointment to scheduling staff

17. Documents relevant material in medical record and forwards pertinent notes to provider for review or signature

18. Instructs patients on procedures, studies and consults

19. Ensures proper hand off of responsibilities once their task is completed

20. Meets established attendance criteria and starts work promptly. Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts

23. Adherence to HR, & Corporate policies and procedures.

24. Ensuring that all medical records are accurate and complete within the SBU for all patients.

25. Ensuring compliance of healthcare regulations, medical laws and high ethical standards.

26. Regularly adheres and supports compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned including, but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA & CMS guidelines for Parts C & D on General Compliance and Fraud, Waste & Abuse.

27. Performs other position related duties as assigned

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION:

Graduate from a recognized college or university with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN). CPR certification is required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) a plus. Post Graduate Diploma in Urology Nursing preferable. Participation in continuing education. Yearly OSHA and CLIA training will also be required. Must have a Registered Nursing license in good standing within the State of Illinois.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The RN must have a minimum of 1-3 years' experience in a physician office setting preferably within the urology specialty. Must have the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate according to the individual needs. Must demonstrate an understanding of clinical risk.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the knowledge of: Internet Software; Word Processing Software (Microsoft Word); Electronic Mail Software (Microsoft Outlook); Electronic Health Records (EMR Software); Practice Management Software (AllScripts)
