The Director of R&D Finance is responsible for directing functional accounting, including budget and forecasting, accounting close and reporting, as well as design and implementation of internal controls, coordination of the audit and audit-related activities, RD tax credits calculations and strategic tax planning and reporting pertaining to the R&D areas.

The Director, of R&D Finance establishes and maintains financial policies and procedures related to business processes, risk management and internal controls and effectively communicates these policies and procedures throughout the business partners, ensuring a close collaboration with internal functional groups to match business needs and efficiencies with appropriate financial controls within the R&D areas.

As lead liaison for auditors for annual audit, quarterly reviews and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, the Director, of R&D Finance ensures effective coordination with Corporate Accounting, SEC reporting, Corporate Finance/FP&A and Treasury to deliver high quality and timely information to the financial reporting process and planning activities.

As Cytokinetics expands for R&D activities outside the United States, the Director of R&D Finance will manage to ensure the coordination of all controllership activities and compliance with statutory tax rules. The Director of R&D Finance reports directly to the Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer.

**Responsibilities:**

* Preparation of functional budgeting and forecasting along with monthly variance meetings to track and manage spend to enable decision making

* Work with the Project Management group to develop accurate clinical study budgets and forecasts

* Overall responsibility over the monthly close process (prepaids, accruals and account analyses) in accordance with GAAP including the timely close and reporting for SEC reporting

* Manage two direct reports to include detailed review of accounting entries, forecast and budget inputs and provide feedback and career development opportunities

* Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the functional departments

* Ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for the functional department

* Lead liaison with external auditor on areas pertaining the accounting and reporting of R&D

* Responsible for compiling R&D information to support the R&D tax credit and Orphan Drug credits for our tax returns and provision

* Reviews major contracts and new vendors for the functional area to ensure consistency and compliance with financial objectives, including coordination with functional area leads and legal

* Manage the strategic alliances including the calculation of revenues and shared expense, billing the strategic partner, and coordinating strategic partners budgets and forecasts

* Facilitate finance activities with the functions for purchasing and payment of invoices

* Ad hoc projects for the functions as needed

**Qualifications:**

* Expertise in the areas of controllership, budgeting and forecasting, SOX compliance, SEC reporting and R&D taxes

* BS/MBA in Finance or Accounting. CPA or MBA preferred

* 10+ years of related experience and demonstrated leadership in Finance

* Knowledge and understanding of the biotechnology industry, including experience in functional and project-based budgeting, and forecasting in a late-stage clinical trials

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience working with senior leaders

* Demonstrated success in mentoring, management, coaching and staff development

* Proven Finance leader that works on a cross-functional basis to ensure achievement of functional goals and alignment with corporate objectives

As our Inventory Group Controller, your responsible for the accounting and reporting processes to ensure the accuracy and completeness of inventory and gross margin, including but not limited to cost of goods sold, shrink, scrap, warranty, rebates, and other reserves. You will be a hands-on leader in this role, instrumental in developing and administering effective and efficient inventory accounting processes and controls, while ensuring best practice operations and continuous improvement in accuracy and efficiency. This position is also responsible for leveraging data to produce and validate valuable comprehensive analyses, business insights and internal reporting for management. This role is highly cross-functional and requires collaboration and significant partnership with a wide variety of teams across the business including IT, operations, logistics and central purchasing.
