Faculty in our Scientific Programsare national/international leaders in infectious disease research, andresearch on vulnerable and susceptible populations. Texas Biomed is seeking toenhance and expand the institute's Scientific Research Programs ( Successful candidates areexpected to contribute to our highly collaborative environment, and to pursue aresearch agenda which aligns with one, or more, of our Scientific Programs.

Host-Pathogen Interactions: The basic biology of infection in humans and animals; theimmediate intersection of host and pathogen. The institute welcomes applicants with researchprograms in the fundamental interactions of viruses, bacteria, parasites orfungi. Research of specific interest includes the study of genetic variationsand disease pathogenesis, vector biology, foodborne infection, mucosal immunityincluding the microbiome, and the study of emerging models of infectiousdiseases.

Disease Interventionand Prevention: Development of diagnostics,treatments and vaccines to reduce the severity of/or cure infection. The institute welcomes applicantswith research programs in the development or testing of diagnostics, vaccines,therapeutics for infectious and non-infectious diseases. Research of specificinterest includes the study of microbial biofilms, multidrug resistantbacteria, host directed therapies and new approaches to evaluate immuneresponses to vaccines. Opportunities and expertise for the development ofprograms is translational sciences including studies using animal rule and GLP.Texas Biomed supports a faculty track in Contract Research.

Population Health: Identification of correlates ofsusceptibility or resistance to infectious and chronic diseases on a populationlevel (both hosts and microbes). The institute welcomes applicants with research programs on infectiousdiseases and/or chronic health conditions (e.g. metabolic disorders) as well ascomorbidities and risk factors such as aging, behavior, genetics, andenvironmental and social determinants of health that affect host risk andseverity of infections and diseases. Research of specific interests includes:i) Fundamental biology of human susceptibility and/or resistance to diseasesand their severity, ii) The study of pathogen population dynamics andadaptation to human and/or animal hosts, iii) Field and population studies ofhuman infectious and chronic diseases (e.g., epidemiology, interventions,precision medicine).

Qualifications: Ph.D., M.D. and/or DVM. Demonstrated research productivity andevidence of an independently-funded federal research program. Experienceworking with interdisciplinary research teams, and mentoring members ofunderrepresented groups. Established investigator candidates with evidence of astrong and well-funded collaborative research program and leadership skillswill be provided resources to recruit a team of two additional faculty withcomplimentary interests and expertise to expand the capabilities of TexasBiomed in these specific disciplines.
