Job Details
The candidate will be reviewing medical records and reporting on same, all in a time-sensitive and confidential basis. Skills include identification and summarization of the medical treatment rendered, complaints, injuries and identification of missing records/additional records needed. Must have medical records experience and nursing background. Obstetrics experience a plus. Successful candidate will have exceptional organization and time management skills, be a team player, and be highly proficient in Microsoft Office, records management programs and timekeeping software.
Duties:
- Performs a variety of complex duties with limited supervision.
- Supports attorneys with medical-related litigation.
- Supports legal team by analyzing and summarizing medical records.
- Conducts medical journal research and abstract medical records.
- Organizes and prepares both outline and narrative summaries of the records for internal use.
- Analyzes medical records and billings to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the medical evidence including pre-existing or co-existing medical conditions.
- Prepares case analysis.
- Identifies issues, omissions, and discrepancies.
- Assists attorneys with medical evidence preparation and organization for depositions, hearing, or trial.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate Degree in Nursing or higher from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Valid nursing license
- 1-5 years of experience as a registered nurse in clinical practice.
- Proficient understanding and utilization of medical terminology, anatomical drawings, laboratory tests, and medications.
- Possess thorough understanding of medical conditions to explain or illustrate a diagnosis.
- In office position. Two remote days per month.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in a law firm or legal department
- Nursing experience in obstetrics
