Warehouse Operations Manager


Job Details

Under the general direction of the Director of Operations, the Operations Manager will be responsible for managing all shipping, receiving, inventory, and fleet aspects of the warehouse. The position will work closely with the purchasing department and sales teams ensuring smooth operation of the shipping and receiving areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead and develop shipping and receiving team members
    • Counseling, discipline, training, monitoring and job performance appraising
    • Lead the development of and adherence to department practices and procedures
  • Maintain an active leadership role on the Company management team
  • Evaluate current shipping/receiving policies and procedures, review and analyze shipping methods for improvements in efficiencies and controlling costs.
  • Ensure adherence to all regulations relating to the shipment and handling of hazardous materials
  • Monitor compliance to weight restrictions on trucks and maximum skid counts
  • Create load sheets and ensure proper paperwork for deliveries
  • Manage all incoming freight
  • Design and monitor metrics and examine current processes to take steps for improvement and cost reduction
  • Arrange maintenance for forklifts and warehouse equipment
  • Monitor inventory and locations when supply and demand changes
  • Inform Management/Purchasing of any potential in-stock/over-stock issues
  • Make suggestions on warehouse organization and structure
  • Contribute to building a quality work environment at the Company by taking initiative, respecting others, and being a team player. Following the policies and procedures in the Company handbook. Using good communication by listening and sharing information to enable others to do their jobs more effectively. Use proper language and etiquette, set a good example and treat the customer with respect and appreciation. Exceed Expectations.

Education and/or Experience: Requires a 4-year degree in a related field and/or 2-4 years of warehouse management experience. US DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR) Certification

Language Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from vendors, customers, managers, and other employees. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business reports, date, and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages and volume. Must maintain a high level of accuracy.

Other skills and Abilities: Working knowledge, understanding, and interest in livestock production-based agriculture a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, and walk; use hands to finger, handle or touch objects; type/data entry for long periods of time; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distant vision.

This employee occasionally will need to lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds up to waist level.

Tools/Equipment Used: Computer, phone, copy machine, and any other business machines as needed. Forklift, Box knife, push cart, hand jack, two wheel cart, and tape gun.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to fluctuations in cold/heat conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Protective clothing/equipment required: Closed toe shoes or boots, gloves when handling sharp or abrasive objects. Steel toe shoes highly recommended.
