Position Summary:
To share the duties of cooking, set up, and cleanup of meals for the Hospitality House emergency shelter guests. To help in cleaning of kitchen facilities and equipment and in coordination and storage of food donations for the shelter.
All duties will be performed keeping with The Salvation Army strict, disciplined standards for quality of food and services. The Cook must also share the spirit of the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army in all contact with other staff, volunteers, vendors, and clients. Must have flexible availability as the Hospitality House is program that operates 7 days a week. Schedule may require to work on weekends and/or holidays.
Essential Functions:
Specific Duties:
* Prep, cook and serve breakfast/lunch/dinner 5 days per week.
* Perform kitchen area cleaning process for shift; receive and help unload donations.
* Be responsible for oversight of volunteers and kitchen equipment and security of kitchen.
* Schedule and help clean refrigerators, freezer, stove, food storage, and all food utensils and equipment according to health requirements.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- If in Recovery minimum 1-year sobriety.
- Have GED or High School Diploma.
- Minimum of 1-year experience preparing meals for large groups.
- Current Food Handling Certificate or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Current CPR training card or ability to obtain.
- Ability to follow all sanitation and safety procedures.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Driving Test and clean MVR check (if applicable).
- If working in vicinity of children a criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate ability to cook nourishing, tasty meals for 60 people daily.
- Knowledge of kitchen maintenance and cleaning requirements.
- Knowledge of food preparation requirements.
**Travel Required**
