**Biology Teaching & Learning Academic Support Specialist II**

The Division of Biology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for the position of Teaching & Learning Academic Support Specialist II to assist with the delivery of 100- and 200- level biology labs and courses to undergraduate students.

The Division of Biology houses three different departments: Microbiology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Biochemistry, Molecular, and Cellular Biology. The Division is home to over 1,000 faculty, staff, and students. These researchers are actively engaged in scientific exploration, including field studies throughout the world. BSF functions to actively support these endeavors.

**The Position:**

Works in collaboration with the Program Coordinator, staff and course coordinators to assist with General Biology laboratory implementation lab courses for both majors and non-majors at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Prepares supplies and cleans labs for each class; organizes and maintains laboratory equipment and materials; makes recommendations for new equipment purchases; purchases supplies needed for labs; helps to maintain Canvas sites for BIOL 101 and 102; helps to maintain the General Biology chemical inventory and monitors hazardous waste storage and disposal.

Trains graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) in proper use of equipment, lab safety, and administration of labs; assists GTAs with restocking supplies, emergency situations, and equipment failures as they arise; assists in the guidance and development of teaching and communication skills of GTAs; may be asked to teach a lab if GTAs have emergency absences. Performs other duties as necessary and assigned.

**Qualifications**

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:**

Education :

* BS/BA in Biology or related discipline. MS preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

* Excellent organizational skills.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Knowledge of laboratory preparation skills (e.g., making solutions, pipetting, sterile technique, etc).

* Excellent problem solving skills.

* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

* Ability to learn and utilize new skills as needed.

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:**

* MS degree in Biology or a related field.

**SALARY** :

Commensurate with experience and other qualifications.
