Description

POSITION PURPOSE

Oversees and administers the daily and long-term maintenance of all rectory and church facilities and properties for St Gabriel in Port Orchard & Prince of Peace in Belfair; specifically daily operations including grounds, facilities, janitorial, safety, security, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs preventive maintenance to buildings and grounds to minimize plumbing, mechanical, electrical, heating, and air conditioning system failures.
  • Diagnoses problems and makes needed repairs to buildings including but not limited; to minor drywall or wood repair, tiling, furniture repair, staining, painting, fountain, sprinkler system, and drainage system.
  • Conducts daily janitorial duties as needed in conjunction with church custodian to ensure facilities are maintained in clean and sanitary condition, including but not limited to trash removal, restocking/refilling paper products, soaps, sanitizing, cleaning bathrooms, floors, and windows.
  • Collaborates with the Building and Grounds Committee in meetings, preparing and presenting short-term and long-range work plans regarding facility and ground operations and maintenance.
  • Identifies outside contractors, vendors, and service providers and negotiates contracts.
  • Prepares and manages annual facility maintenance budget.
  • Purchases supplies and equipment from vendors.
  • Supervises maintenance staff including temporary and special project staffing.
  • Promotes volunteer opportunities for facilities, and provides training and direct supervision to volunteers.
  • Directs facility safety program assuring security including key access systems, and ensures church facilities are secure when not in use.
  • Assures upkeep and maintenance of vehicles and machinery owned by the parish.
  • Assures necessary facilities-related support to all parish programs and special events including set-up/tear-down of chairs, tables, and other equipment, and attends events as required or as necessary.
  • Safety Officer for campus, responsible for fulfilling the Safety and Accident Prevention Program for the Parish including the Safety Committee, and assuring vigilance in identifying potential and actual safety concerns and responding accordingly to prevent, eliminate or contain all identified concerns.
  • Is available to respond to emergencies during off-duty hours as may be required.
  • Maintains current resources and vendors to respond to anticipated emergencies.
  • Communicates daily with supervisor and participates in staff meetings and retreats.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicle, valid driver's license, and insurability.
  • Remains current with all necessary operational and administrative knowledge by attending training and continuing education opportunities as assigned by management.
  • Assists with the above at our sister church Prince of Peace, Belfair WA.
  • Performs other job-related duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a handyman/facility maintenance worker.
  • Experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, mechanical or HVAC systems.
  • Good communication ability.
  • Well-organized and apt in problem-solving.
  • Strong leadership and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation
    • Scale Ladders and use mechanical lifts to access roofs and high-reach areas
    • Frequently moves boxes weighing up to 50lbs across campus
    • Frequently stands, kneels reaches, bends, grabs, holds, twists etc to perform maintenance tasks.
    • Works indoors and outdoors throughout the year as duties require.

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
