Nutritional Food Services Aide- Full Time


Job Details

* Is competent to operate the cash register, making change, cashing out, and completing the cash drawer count sheets. (Bryan).

* Accurately compiles and records pertinent information for patient diets in kardex including diet changes, room transfers, food/beverage preferences, snacks and supplements. (Montpelier).

* Monitors and ensures patient tray assemblies are completed appropriately, serving the allowed foods per diet and menu in correct portion size using the appropriate serving utensils and garnishes, onto cups dishes and trays which are placed in the carts and delivered to the floors at scheduled times. * Updates the kardex, menus, diet cards, snack box and objective data in patient assessments accurately per daily patient census report and computer orders. (Montpelier).

* Head patient menus adjusting for each type diet order, allergies, food preferences, and supplements. Completes tally for patient, Prepares patient late trays and nourishments, practicing a clean as you go policy and completes job and cleaning assignments per checklist. (Montpelier).

* Notifies the cooks and appropriate staff of any additional tray requirements of significant discharges, full clear and liquid thickness requirements. (Montpelier).

* Collects and organizes food supplies for the Archbold facility. (Bryan/Archbold Run).

* Is knowledgeable to pick up and deliver items requiring transport between the facilities for other departments. (Bryan/Archbold Run).

* Follow proper procedure to set up kitchen and serving area, serve and charge staff meals. (Bryan/Archbold Run).

* Correctly inventories (monitoring expiration dates), restocks and rotates food and equipment. (Bryan/Archbold Run).

* Uses care and caution when driving the hospital van. Always drives the posted speed limit, drives as safely as possible, keeps gas tank above half. Any driving violations must be reported to the supervisor immediately. It is the employees responsibility to pay any traffic tickets. (Bryan/Archbold Run).

* Organizes and prioritizes work to meet time schedules.

* Is self-disciplined in work to seek extra work and assist others when time allows.

* Can work without constant supervision demonstrating good judgment in the decision making and problem solving process.

* Has the ability to perform the scheduled position duties and repetitive tasks.

* Meets proper NFS dress code prior to clocking in, this includes uniform and hair net.

* Uniforms are clean, wrinkle free, proper fitting, correct material and color.

* Hair is properly under control and hair in net.

* Name tag is worn above the waist with name and face visible.

* Excessive jewelry is not worn.

* Shoes are clean, closed and made to meet safety requirements.

* Fingernails are clean, trimmed and polished free.

* Perfume and strong scented lotions are not worn at work.

* Works well with supervisor and others in position of authority.

* Informs supervisor of any suggestions for a positive process improvement and all activities on the shift especially those which impact on the preparation, presentation and delivery of high quality food item.

* Willingly preforms other functions as directed by NFS Director/supervisor/charge person.

* Is able to communicate issues in a positive manner using active listening and questioning skills.

* Communication is kept on professional concerns without dominating other employees time.

* Capable to teach and train others using tell, show, and do techniques as needed.

* Treats all individuals with dignity and respect providing appropriate credit and praise for efforts and achievements. Recognizes the differences of people in the work place.

* Has courtesy and tact in dealing with hospital personnel, patients and public, presenting a positive image of our hospital as a caring and concerned organization.

* Attends production meetings and NFS Department inservices and signs posted meeting minutes.

* Keeps absenteeism to a minimum. 5=0-2, 4=3-5, 3=6-8,2=9-10, 1=>11

* Reports to work at scheduled time and takes corrective action to prevent tardiness. 5=0, 4=1-3, 3=4-6, 2=7-9, 1=>10

* Reports promptly from lunch in 30 minutes and breaks in 15 minutes.

* Averages no more than one phone call per day.

* Completes benefit/pay requests appropriately. Scheduling requests are submitted six weeks in advance and the scheduling calendar has been checked and indicates the day is still available.

* Avoids use of work time for social and personal matters.

* Organizes and prioritizes work to meet time schedules and deliver trays within the hour.

* Able to adjust working speed to patient count/work load without sacrificing quality.

* Is self-disciplined in work to seek extra work and assist others when time allows.

* Can work without constant supervision demonstrating good judgment in the decision making and problem solving process.

* Has the ability to perform the scheduled position duties and repetitive tasks.

* Knows what SDS sheets are and where they are located.

* Wears gloves when preparing/serving ready to eat food.

* Follow HACCP Guidelines for food temperature.

* Never eats with fingers while preforming food preparation duties.

* Washes hands before starting work, after eating, and at required times.

* Understands Universal Precautions and uses Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) barrier effectively.

* Dates and initials stored food for expiration , uses food to minimize waste and pulls food once it is expired .

* Keeps wet dishcloths in sanitizer solution.

* Reports any infection control, sanitation and safety infractions to the supervisor/charge person.

* Handles equipment safely and reports any equipment failures, inappropriate temperatures, and other items requiring repair to supervisor/charge person.

* Practices safe body mechanics in work such as using carts to transport large or heavy loads and asking for help as needed when lifting.

* Follows NFS policies and procedures and considers the mission, values, and ethical principles of CHWC as a framework for all decision-making.

* Supports the NFS established management systems to provide successful preparation, presentation and delivery of quality foods.

* Completes forms, records, daily check lists, cleaning check lists, worksheets, and others as may be required.

* Attends production meetings and NFS Department inservices and signs posted meeting minutes.

* Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English. Must be able to follow oral and written directions.

* Experience: Quality food service production operation desired. Knowledge and ability in the operation and cleaning of dish room, pot and pan, and other food production equipment required.
