SUMMARY

The Student Account Collections and Billing Specialist is responsible for managing accurate university student account billing processes, ongoing evaluation of delinquent student accounts, and assessment of and managing relationships with third-party collectors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned by proper personnel.

Post charges to student accounts and evaluate accuracy of process twice a week

Verify accuracy of student charges and resolve issues when they arise, working directly with data entry points and Technology Services.

Manage collection of course fees and billing table evaluation each semester.

Posting of student account journal entries

Processing and verification of student account holds.

Responsible for the collection of delinquent student accounts including phone inquiries and following up with appropriate departments and/or correspondence, and determination of collection path.

Develops customized automated payment plans for delinquent accounts.

Calls and/or mails correspondence/monthly statements to students in order to update delinquent student accounts.

Responsible for selection of and managing strategic relationships with outside collection agencies, tracking their performance and assessing their value to our processes at SAU.

Assess changes in collection law and manage compliance with collection law.

Manages Clearing and Bad Debt Accounts

Determines appropriate course of action for collection of bad debt from students in bankruptcy.

Manages the processing and collection of Perkins Loans, including but not limited to all required reporting and reconciliation of accounts.

Determine course of action for complicated student financial situations.

REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as member of Student Financial Services reporting directly to the Director of Student Financial Services.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May supervise student workers to meet the needs of the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to assess complicated situations and decide appropriate course of action. Good organizational and word processing skills necessary. Experience with Excel spreadsheets, building and maintaining accounting and database systems required. Ability to prioritize, complete multiple tasks and possess good interpersonal, communication and writing skills. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent from four-year University required, Master's degree preferred.

2-5 years related experience and/or training, preferred.

Experience working in multicultural academic environments preferred and individuals from diverse populations are encouraged to apply.
