Job Summary:


The Environmental Health & Safety Manager ( EHSM ) is responsible for planning, implementing, and enforcing the company s environmental, health and safety policies and procedures. The primary role of the EHSM is to foster a safe and healthy workplace and assure prevention of unpermitted pollution. The EHSM will administer and deliver programs, processes, procedures, and policies aimed at establishing and maintaining a safe and environmentally sound working environment. The EHSM will collaborate with the leadership team to build a culture of safety and accountability throughout the organization. This position reports directly to the President, has stop work authority and enforcement of safety and environmental procedures.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Ensures the completion of all OSHA and environmental reporting requirements.
  • Identifies continuous improvement opportunities to improve overall health and safety performance across the organization.
  • Manages and facilitates internal audit and inspection processes and programs related to health and safety.
  • Provides health and safety assessments for new equipment introductions.
  • Provides education and training to facility personnel on appropriate safety and environmental programs.
  • Providing health and safety technical support for site specific initiatives and projects.
  • Will review, design, implement, and maintain all facility environmental programs to ensure compliance with legislative, corporate and industry standards and requirements, and promote employee participation and accountability.
  • Will provide environmental advice and technical expertise in the form of policies, guidelines, and procedures, including practical involvement and demonstrations.
  • Will maintain the environmental management programs to ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local standards and requirements.
  • Performs periodic evaluations to ensure compliance with environmental permits, plans, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies, develops, and implements EHS programs aimed at reducing injury and illness rates, enhancing communication in the workforce, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Will perform inspections and or audits on a daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly basis to ensure compliance with EHS programs at remote locations, offsite facilities, and the main plant.
  • Collects, reviews, and completes trend analysis of injury and illness data.
  • Coordinates safety committee meetings, production safety meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  • Reviews new chemical product SDS and approves or declines use in plant.
  • Evaluates and recommends the selection of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Will work within established guidelines for the continual improvement of safety, health, and environmental performance.
  • Manages the company's loss prevention, emergency management, and life safety programs to identify and implement process improvement.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders, providing leadership toward the development of a positive and engaged safety culture within the company.
  • Spearhead investigations and responses to alleged OSHA violations.
  • Calculate safety metrics including, but not limited to OSHA TRIR and LTIR.


Qualifications and Experience:


  • Bachelor s degree in health, engineering, industrial science, education, environmental science, or related discipline.
  • Certification as an Environmental or Health and Safety professional. (CIH, CSP, CHMM, and/or CSMP)
  • Minimum of five (5) years' practical experience acting in a similar role; manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in all OSHA, federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations; specifically, OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and EPA 40CFR.
  • Experience implementing EHS programs aimed at reducing injury and illness rates, enhancing communication in the workforce, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with EPA SWPPP, SSPC, RCRA, SARA EPCRA & TRI, CAA, CWA
  • Experience with ISNet and Avetta vetting services.
  • Fire prevention, hot work, and fire suppression systems.
  • Chemical spill response procedures.
  • Respiratory protection, fit testing, and air monitoring.
  • Asbestos management plan implementation and maintenance.
  • EPA air permit applications, air permit compliance recordkeeping, air emissions calculations, toxic release inventory, emergency planning and community right to know act, SPCC plan, sewer and water discharge regulation compliance, hazardous waste management.
  • Accident and injury investigations.
  • OSHA and EPA employee training experience
  • Willingness to work on the field and on weekends with short notice.
  • Must be available to work all shifts, including early mornings, evenings, holidays, weekends, and in the event of emergencies.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with MS Office.
  • Demonstrated Project Management experience.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
