Join our dedicated Team at VMC LLC! The Environmental Policy Program Support Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting environmental stewardship and compliance with federal and international environmental regulations. The successful candidate will provide essential assistance in the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental policies and programs related to aviation.
Key Responsibilities:
Policy Development Support
- Provide technical support for policy development efforts, particularly related to international aviation environmental policies at forums such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP).
- Assist in the implementation of international policies, such as the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), into domestic outcomes.
- Support the development of new stringencies for aircraft noise and emissions standards, including cost-benefit analyses and engagement with stakeholders.
Emissions and Impact Analysis:
- Assist in conducting measurements and analyses of aircraft engine emissions to understand their environmental impacts on air quality, the ozone layer, and climate change.
- Develop measurement systems for gaseous and particulate matter emissions and analyze emissions from aircraft engines operating on conventional and alternative fuels.
- Convey findings to improve emissions certification procedures and requirements and quantify the impacts of emissions on various environmental factors.
Noise and Impact Analysis:
- Conduct measurements and analyses of aircraft noise to support the development and implementation of noise certification standards and regulations.
- Analyze noise exposure using various acoustic models and conduct research on the impacts of noise on human health, sleep, and productivity.
- Provide technical expertise to update and maintain FAA's Noise Policy and support the development of noise mitigation strategies.
Modeling and Analysis Support:
- Conduct qualitative, quantitative, environmental, and economic analyses to support operational concepts, policy development, and NAS changes.
- Develop, modify, and apply simulations, models, and analysis tools for environmental and operational assessments in aviation.
- Plan and conduct studies on airport capacities, environmental consequences, and operational impacts using data analysis techniques and modeling tools.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field.
- Experience in policy analysis, environmental impact assessments, and data analysis.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in modeling tools and software.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Familiarity with aviation regulations and environmental policies.
