Job Summary

We're seeking a Part-Time Park Interpreter/Caretaker to join our team at this scenic sanctuary. This position is located at The Rainbow Falls Historic Site in Manitou Springs, CO.

Hiring Range: $16.00 - $19.00 (commensurate with qualifications)

This position works Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, during May - October, subject to change. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt.

Assists in providing interpretive services within the Rainbow Falls Historic Site to promote public understanding, enjoyment and appreciation of natural areas, interpretive programs and parks; performs light maintenance.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provides visitors with accurate and concise information regarding Rainbow Falls history and current restorations, trail locations and conditions, park rules and regulations, and overall orientation.
  • Leads and assists with staff or volunteer-led interpretive programs and presentations.
  • Assists with various special projects/events on behalf of the Recreation & Cultural Services Division.
  • Utilizes cell phone to communicate with staff and park security.
  • Opens and closes historic site; performs light maintenance including grounds and building maintenance, trash collection, paint removal and sign replacement.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of regional natural and cultural history preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the professional commitment to the position.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and the public. Ability to stimulate interest and lead people in various interpretive activities in the nature center and outside on the trails.
  • Ability to use various computer programs, including word processing, databases and desktop publishing software; Microsoft Office proficiency preferred.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, drug screen, and physical examination.

Work Conditions

Duties are performed mainly outside in the field in various weather conditions. Field work may involve transverse/negotiating undeveloped, rugged terrain. Requires physical effort to perform frequent lifting, bending and climbing; must be able to safely lift and carry up to thirty (30) pounds. This is a part-time position regularly working up to 25 hours per week.
