Job Description Summary

Reporting to the hotel's General Manager and is a member of the hotel's executive committee, the Director of Sales and Marketing (DOSM) has overall responsibility for the development and execution of the hotel's group, transient, catering and marketing strategy for all revenue generating areas of the hotel.

The DOSM will be responsible for working closely with the hotel executive team and corporate management team to develop and execute the annual
marketing and sales plans.

The DOSM is responsible for setting the direction for the hotel's sales and marketing team and for overseeing the successful execution of strategic and tactical plans for sales and marketing including but not limited to advertising, public relations, social media, and direct sales.

Success in this role is largely dependent on the DOSM's ability to assess the competitive landscape to properly position the hotel. A key factor in measuring the success of the hotel's positioning will be the DOSM's ability to drive higher rated business to be measured through a higher blended ADR and RevPAR growth.

Royal Sonesta Kaua'i Resort Lihue is a hotel located in Lihue, Hawaii. Our resort features stunning views of Kalapaki Bay, and exceptional amenities, and is situated near popular attractions like Wailua Falls and Kauai Lagoons Golf Course. Job Description

Principle duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions) include;

o Professionally represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events.

o Participate as a team player with other Executive Team Members.

o Provide constructive feedback to all departments and to hotel sales and marketing staff.

o Be a leader and role model to all employees.

o Additional duties as necessary and assigned.

o Actively participates and leads in DBR, weekly sales and strategy meetings

o Works with Director of Revenue Management on monthly, quarterly and annual group rooms forecasting.

Job Responsibilities:

o Assist with the direction of the entire sales and catering team ; carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies which may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

o Incorporates marketing and public relations initiatives to support the sales strategies and activities.

o Establishes a sense of urgency with the team to understand and achieve the needs of the hotel.

o Handles specific accounts assigned by the Sr. Director, Corporate Sale or Regional Sales Director.

o Coordinate the Sales & Marketing efforts of the Hotel's strategic partnerships; PJ's Coffee, Jazz Playhouse and Restaurant Revolutions.

Operational/Functional:

o Works with General Manager, Revenue Manager and Operations team to develop and execute revenue management strategies to maximize revenues with an eye on raising ADR and profitability of the business.

o Works closely with the corporate functional leaders to ensure that Sonesta property is maximizing sales and marketing opportunities that require Sonesta corporate support including but not limited to: SEO, PPC, Direct Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations.

o Ensures that the sales team is properly deployed, is working the correct market segments, and participates in the right trade shows and corporate supported GSO missions.

o Responsible for total hotel revenue to include Food and Beverage, and Banquets and Catering revenue.

o Financial responsibilities to also include compensation and the processing of sales incentive payments.

Strategy and Planning:

o Develop and execute sales & marketing strategies through preparation of a strategic sales plan, implementation and administration of the S&M budget and the establishment of annual seller goals.

o Regular analysis of industry intelligence reports (STR, Demand 360, Agency 360, Knowland etc.)
Pulls and analyzes appropriate data to develop and recommend appropriate actions.

o Assist with individual quarterly SMART Plans.

o Develops and approves sales and catering team annual goals, and reviews and revises the goals as needed midyear.

o Directly works with the corporate sales and marketing team to develop strategies for public relations, advertising, marketing/sales providers with responsibility for managing the plans set forth and approved.

o Develop and execute action plans against existing and new target accounts to achieve and exceed sales quotas within the assigned segment.

Financial Management:

o Drive Top Line Revenue.

o Act as a steward of the hotels annual Sales and Marketing travel and marketing budget

o Work closely with the sales and catering team towards achievement of aggressive both quarterly and annual goals for production and consumption.

o Financial Acumen.

o Reporting and Analytics.

o Knowledge of Hospitality Systems.

o Ability to recruit, supervises, train and motivate multiple levels of managers.

o Ensure team members receive proper training applicable to their position and career aspirations and in accordance with company policy and/or local laws.

Qualifications and Skills

A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support their competencies therein.

o Bachelor's degree in Hotel Administration, Business Administration or related field experience preferred.

o 5 plus years of previous Director level hotel sales experience preferred

o A successful track record of direct sales and new business development

o Must possess the ability and willingness to travel 25% of the time.

o Excellent oral and written communication skills.

o Excellent organization skills.

o Demonstrated business and financial acumen.

o Appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.

o Ability to deliver presentations in a concise, well-organized manner.

o Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

o Demonstrates knowledge of job-related processes and systems (i.e. IT systems specific to sales including Delphi. FDC, Meeting Broker and technologies or distribution channels used to source group business (Lanyon, Cvent).

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period. Ability to move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces. Ability to move up and down ladders, stairs, and service ramps.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift, pull, push, and carry up to 20lbs at a time occasionally.


Expected Hours of Work:
  • Must be flexible to work variable days of the week to include weekends and holidays.
  • Must be flexible to work various shifts (days, nights, overnights).
  • Ten to twelve hour shifts sometimes required.


Travel:
  • Required to travel.


Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 4 years of progressive hotel Sales experience; or a 4-year college degree and at least 3 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree and at least 5 years of hotel Sales experience.

Pay Range

Pay Range $164,000-197,000/yr. Base pay offered may vary depending on various factors including but not limited to job related knowledge, skills and job specific experience/overall experience.
