Job Description

WORK SCHEDULE

Part-Time, temporary 29.5 hours a week from May through October.

SUMMARY

Working with Spruce Island Farm employees, you will learn about and assist with all day-to-day aspects of vegetable production and special projects needed to operate the farm. The internship position provides the opportunity to actively experience and learn about successful small farming in Ouzinkie. They require hard work in the field daily and offers the invaluable benefit of being a part of a team and the inner workings of the farm to assist in providing food security to the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Harvest, wash, pack, and delivery of produce
  • Planting, seeding, weeding, transplanting, and harvesting of vegetables
  • Sales
  • Attend all training meetings
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be an Ouzinkie shareholder, descendant, or spouse of a shareholder.
  • Ability to work in a physically active environment.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SPCIAL SKILLS
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. is preferred.
  • Experience using general office equipment including computers, copiers, fax machines, 10 Key, etc. is preferred.
  • Ability to interact with staff, outside clients, and vendors in a demanding environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient.
  • Strong customer-service orientation.
  • Skill in responding diplomatically to both requests for information and complaints.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and stay within deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks appropriately.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, including skills needed to accurately and file documents.
  • Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and initiative, monitors own work to ensure quality.

High School diploma or GED.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequent physical labor, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, talking, hearing, and seeing up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth perception and the ability to adjust focus; occasional walking or standing, occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
