Job Details

JOB GOALS: Assist the bus driver in coordinating safe transportation of all students to and from school. The duties of this individual may vary according to duties assigned by the driver.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  1. Provide direct supervision of students on the bus. This requires monitor to be seated and alert at all times.
  2. Assist the driver loading and unloading handicapped students.
  3. Perform any other duties assigned by the bus driver.
  4. Buckle students in their seats.
  5. Assist with wheelchairs; lock them in place.
  6. Monitor closely students who have medical issues.
  7. Call parents as needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid state driver's license - operator permit. CPR and First Aid training preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence, and effectively present information.

MATHEMATICAL SKILL:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The position typically takes place indoors in a bus environment with occasional outdoor duties related to loading and unloading students.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

180 days. Salary and benefits as per the Classified policy.

EVALUATION: An evaluation will be done on the employee's performance on an annual basis.
