Description: This team member is tasked with leading Installation Teams to safely deliver high-quality, fully functional AV and/or security systems to our clients.This position is for an expert-level technician with broad, proven success safely completing projects on time and on budget. This person is capable of all or most aspects of system installation and possesses the skills necessary to lead teams of up to ten people. As a systems expert, this person is also tasked with performing troubleshooting and problem resolution on systems previously installed by themselves, their teams, or others.

Responsibilities: The Lead Systems Technician's responsibilities will include:

  • Safety at LightWerks is EVERYONE's responsibility, so in every instance where you are concerned about the safety of anyone related to our work, we need you to ALWAYS maintain a policy of "See it? Say it! Sort it!" You must train yourself on the Company's "Yellow Card/Red Card Safety Warning Process", and train and enforce it with other Team Members,
  • Learning, and implementing the relevant elements of The LightWerks Way,
  • Delivering fully tested, working systems with excellent craftmanship to our customers or to Field Engineers or other commissioning agents,
  • Meeting deadlines set by our Project Managers and the Director of Field Services,
  • Being accountable for your teams' safe completion of quality projects within (preferably 5-10% below) the budgeted hours,
  • Properly preparing to lead projects assigned to you (for the team to be as productive as possible upon arrival) by:
  1. Ensuring that proper technical job walks have been completed by you or your colleagues PRIOR to going to site, if possible,
  2. Creating work plans for the project including tasks and site logistics,
  3. Reviewing and ensuring that you have the necessary documentation for you to be successful leading the project,
  4. Reviewing tools and installation supplies in your van(s) to ensure you have what will be needed, and augmenting them as required,
  5. Participating in relevant project and scheduling meetings, and post-project debriefs, as required, and
  6. Sharing any questions or concerns you may have to the Director of Field Services and/or the Project Manager on a project.
  • Completing all work with the highest safety standard for LightWerks' Team Members, customers, and all other related personnel, specifically:
  1. Conducting a Daily Check-In Meetings with Team members before beginning work on any job site,
  2. Ensuring that all team members and subs have and always use appropriate PPE and other safety equipment as recommended/required by various OSHA entities (e.g., fall arrest systems, etc.) and as specified by clients and GCs,
  3. Learning and training Team Members on the company's "Yellow Card/Red Card Safety Warning Process,
  4. Learning and ensuring that that you implement the company's "Clear the Kill Zone" warning process whenever working on jobs that are determined to be "Hazardous."
  • Giving daily direction to your installation team(s) and ensuring that work is done according to the Engineered specifications,
  • Completing personal timekeeping, and other documentation conscientiously and consistently daily,
  • Recognizing and communicating to the Director of Technical Services, and/or Project Manager if your team will be unable to safely complete a day's tasks or a project on time and within budgets as described above, and recommended corrective actions to keep the project on track, if possible
  • Maintaining expert-level proficiency and completing tasks related to the following technical installation requirements:
  1. Cable pulls and terminations,
  2. Permanent, physical installation of equipment to customers' structures,
  3. Building and certifying 100% functional racks of electronic equipment to the Engineered specifications,
  4. Configuring appropriate software applications (Biamp, Crestron, Extron, Teams, Zoom, etc.) and equipment (e.g., simple control systems, switches, DSPs, etc.) to achieve desired functionality,
  5. Establishing connections to key system components, loading software, and establishing a remote connection with Engineers and Programmers, and
  6. Other technical installation tasks, as required,
  • On technically sophisticated projects, testing and certifying the work of your team members to ensure programmers and commissioning personnel can successfully complete their tasks after your team completes their work,
  • On technically simple projects, testing and certifying the work of your team members to ensure that customers receive fully functional systems,
  • In cases where a subcontractor has completed some or all of the scope of work, testing and accepting their work to ensure that the quality is up to LightWerks and our customers' expectations,
  • Recognizing the need to ask others - Engineers, your Team Manager/Leader, other Lead Systems Technicians, or manufacturers' own technical support - for help after a reasonable (i.e., short) amount of time spent trying to solve technical or installation challenges on your own,
  • Recognizing the need to ask others - either your team's LEAD or our Director of Field Services - for help after a reasonable (i.e., short) amount of time spent trying to solve technical or installation challenges on your own,
  • Directing customer requests for changes or deviations from the plan to your project's Project Manager to prepare appropriate external change orders; not proceeding with any changes until approved by the Project Manager IN WRITING,
  • Performing special projects, as available and appropriate, on an occasional basis,
  • Learning and following our work-flow processes (including updates) which are designed to effectively serve our customers' needs in an optimally efficient manner,
  • Learning and emulating the attributes articulated in the "LightWerks 'TEAM Profile" (including updates) to the best of your ability,
  • Providing on-site support (e.g., system troubleshooting and issue resolution, etc.), by performing support visits as necessary.

  • Documenting any approved changes to our plan by marking up drawings, or via other documentation, as requested,
  • Performing or directing others how to perform troubleshooting on all the systems we sell to determine root cause(s) of failures in the most effective and efficient manner,
  • Offering assistance whenever/wherever necessary to ensure our success,
  • Mastering and maintaining the Company's various software systems. These include Teams, D-Tools, and Basecamp, and other software applications as they are introduced,
  • Working to the highest professional standards in terms of timeliness, neatness, attention to detail, polite/respectful customer interaction, and other professional matters that reflect on the reputation of LightWerks and the quality of our work,
  • Providing orientation-like training to customers' end-users and/or technical personnel,
  • Attending and/or leading assigned Installation department meetings and executing the resulting action items,
  • Maintaining tools, vehicles, and other LightWerks' equipment and supplies to top performance standards,
  • Providing feedback and recommendations to Operations Team leadership to ensure the continuous improvement of our processes and technical capabilities, and
  • Consistently maintaining - and modeling - a positive attitude and performing as a team player on a day-to-day basis.


Requirements

The following skills and qualifications are required to successfully execute this job:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent,
  • Equivalent of five years of relevant hands-on installation experience,
  • Appropriate certifications on our Top 5-selling brands (currently Crestron, Extron, Shure, NEC, and Epson), as well as others that may be determined by your Team Manager/Leader,
  • Possessing an AVIXA CTS certification, or able to earn one within six months of full-time employment,
  • Possessing, or ability to earn, a CTS-I certification,
  • Possessing the relevant technical skills and leadership experience to lead small to medium-sized teams of technician to deliver working systems with excellent craftmanship to customers or to Field Engineers or other commissioning agents,
  • Ability to read, interpret, and mark-up (i.e., correct) architectural and technical drawings and to direct members of your teams to deliver 100% complete systems per our Engineered specifications,
  • Ability to connect Crestron and other control/signal distribution systems to the internet to allow remote programmers to access on-site systems,
  • Strong inter-personal communication skills, a strong work ethic, positive outlook, and ability to focus and complete assigned tasks,
  • Must be well-versed and proficient with the entire suite of Microsoft Office products,
  • Must possess a working knowledge of IT/networking fundamentals,
  • Earning and maintaining the appropriate installation-related certifications on our key brands (e.g., Crestron, Extron, etc.) as well as others determined by Senior Management (e.g., Bosch, Microsoft Teams, Envoy, OpenPath, Zoom, etc.), and
  • Earning and maintaining appropriate safety certifications including but not limited to OSHA-30, CPR/First Aid, Aerial and Scissor Lifts, Hilti Powder Actuated tools, etc.

Other Requirements:
  • Reaching, grasping, carrying, pulling, and pushing activities are also required,
  • Un-restricted ability to climb minimum six-foot ladders,
  • Un-restricted ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds, and 50 pounds above the head,
  • The noise level will occasionally be high. As with all other hazards, PPE will be supplied by the company and is to be worn/used at all related times,
  • Although most work is performed inside, occasional outside activities are subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations,
  • Must be able to see all colors in the visual spectrum (i.e., not suffering from "color blindness"), unless proficiency of tasks can be achieved in some other reasonable fashion, and
  • Must possess a valid and current driver's license that is valid in all States where the Team Member may travel in the course of their duties, and must have a driving record that will allow them to be and remain insurable under the Company's liability and umbrella insurance policies.


Desired: The following skills and qualifications are desired, but not strictly required:
  • A technical degree from an accredited two- or four-year college,
  • Seven years of relevant experience, and
  • And COMPTIA Network+, or similar, certification
