Position Summary:
Entry level professional generalist position in SH&E located in a division, plant or site operation. Provide basic analysis and technical expertise to the Safety Manager and to department and site managers in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with GAM s SH&E standards and with national, provincial/statewide and local requirements. Supports implementation of SH&E and operational programs with appropriate management direction and oversight. Assists site leaders and work groups with identification, evaluation of SH&E risks associated with all operational and laboratory processes/reactions. Develops respect and credibility and provides guidance to assure site compliance with key codes and regulations. Engages with site leaders, operators and technicians to continually improve GAM s SHE culture.
Essential Functions
Safety, Health & Environmental Compliance Coordination
- Manage databases and documentation required for assuring compliance with GAM Policies, SH&E regulations and standards (Powered Industrial Truck, Control of Hazardous Energy, Permit Required Confined Space, Hazwoper, First Aid/CPR, Line Breaking, Hot Work, Ergonomic Assessments, etc.).
- Participate in the preparation and administration of site SH&E training including new hire classroom orientation (PPE, PIT, Employee Emergency Action Plan, etc).
- Oversee requirements of hazardous waste activities including proper storage, labeling, manifesting and container inspections.
- Assist and oversee the development of SH&E management systems for the site including but not limited to incident investigations, management of change, contractor oversight, SH&E management information systems, and VPP.
- Assist in the investigation of incidents and analyze data for trends.
- Facilitate PHA s, in a team environment, for PSM (Process Safety Management) covered processes using PHA Pro Software.
Loss Prevention and Medical Surveillance Program Support
- Administer/oversee site medical surveillance programs for respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and industrial hygiene monitoring of laboratories.
- Administer the industrial hygiene sampling program (noise, organics, acid vapors, heavy metals, and particulates).
- Assist in the development and monitor of emergency action plans for medical emergencies, chemical spills or releases, fires and severe weather events.
- Recommend and facilitate necessary changes to policies and procedures to improve compliance, accountability and the prevention of incidents.
- Participate in hazard assessments and assist in the determination of personal protective equipment requirements.
- Support site nurse and dispensary activities.
Training and Engagement
- Collaborate with all plant leaders and personnel to assure understanding of required work group safety activities and performance expectations.
- Coach, educate and train leaders and operators on company safety, health and environment policies and procedures in an effort to maintain conformance and participation at all levels.
- Participates on internal site committees and teams, as appropriate (safety committee, emergency response team, project teams).
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Ability to work with others in a team environment as well as an individual; oral and written communication skills
- Ability to plan, analyze and think logically.
- Willingness to learn about radioactive materials, laser safety, process safety management, environmental management of waste, air, water and waste water, loss control, management accountability and safety leadership.
