Reporting to: Group Chief Underwriting Officer

The Role

To define and execute the global business strategy for the Property & Casualty lines at Canopius to deliver against long-term growth plans/objectives.

Responsibilities will include:

  • In conjunction with the Group CUO define and monitor compliance against a strategy for Property & Casualty (P&C) lines of business.
  • Define, establish and communicate global risk and product appetite.
  • Develops formal guidelines and standards to build a common approach for Property & Casualty underwriting across the globe.
  • Supporting local BU leadership to develop the global product financial plans in line with the strategy.
  • Integral member of senior underwriting management team, working closely with the Group CUO, BU CUO s and other members of UW management to help implement the global product strategy.
  • Monitoring risk aggregation of products globally and ensuring compliance with agreed regional strategies to maximize capital efficiency and profit within the group.
  • Providing technical expertise to all underwriters globally in the organization to ensure consistency across the products and regions.
  • Interface with actuarial pricing leadership to ensure that price adequacy for each portfolio is in line with expectations, and if not, develop an action plan to amend strategy.
  • Working with regional distribution leaders to ensure pipeline and opportunities developed are in line with expectations.
  • Delegation of authority for Property & Casualty lines across all Regions ensuring compliance with all underwriting standards and guidelines.
  • Driving product development, innovation, and continuous improvement for P&C lines across the globe.
  • Managing the suite of P&C products and policy forms deployed by Canopius ensuring they strike an appropriate balance of providing competitive and marketable breadth of coverage scope, flexibility, and structure.
  • Driving knowledge sharing for relevant global trends and information on evolving nature of risk, performance results, claim trends, etc... That will then be used to inform regional underwriting strategy decisions.
  • Collaborating with Outwards Reinsurance to ensure strategic posture on outwards reinsurance delivers appropriate protection consistent with group risk appetite.
  • Ensuring that complete and accurate underwriting records are maintained.
  • Promoting a culture where clients needs are placed at the heart of underwriting decision-making and business is conducted in a manner that meets Canopius internal standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Representing Canopius externally in a manner that enhances market reputation and profile.
