Location: RIVERSIDE MEDICAL CENTER

Summary:

The SPD Tech assists with cleaning and care of instruments and surgical trays. Prepares trays for sterilization. Assists in general departmental housekeeping tasks, maintains specialty carts. Assures that biological and chemical monitors are completed as required. Operates sterilizer machines per manufacturer instructions. Operates washers and ultrasonic machine. Maintains required logkeeping records. Works closely with OR staff in preparing and assisting the OR as needed, fostering good communication skills and a positive work environment. Assists other nursing units, clinics and medical offices with the decontamination, cleaning and sterilization of their items. Expected to work efficiently, function independently and maintain a positive attitude.

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience helpful but not necessary
  • 12 week Orientation period within department on day shift.
  • License or Certification Requirements:
  • CRCST or CSPDT preferred.


Responsibilities:

  • Able to clean and test instrumentation for functionality
  • Able to distinguish between clean and dirty areas of the department and adheres to RMC policy for proper traffic control and dress code through the department
  • Attempts to be helpful to any staff member or vendor when they may ask for your services
  • Checking in storeroom supplies & outside (special order) supplies. Checking for outdated supplies and reprocessing as necessary.
  • Communicates with OR regarding special instrument cleaning. Knowledge of all OR instruments and proper decontamination of instruments
  • Documentation and maintenance of all records pertinent to sterilizers, i.e. biological and chemical indicators, and load tally sheets.
  • Follows RMC policy on Personal Protection Equipment while working in decontamination
  • Inspects and disassembles instruments to ensure proper cleaning and disinfection
  • Knowledge of operation of steam and Sterrad
  • Loads and operates the washers properly. Loads and operates sterilizers properly
  • Monthly cleaning of cabinets and routine end of month assignment
  • Plans and assesses priorities to maintain adequate production with minimum supervision.
  • Assembles instruments accurately
  • Understands the value of teamwork and is able to function as a member of a team. Consistently strive to be a team player and improve the quality of the department
  • Uses biological indicators appropriately
  • Uses ultrasonic bath consistently
  • Wraps items for sterilization and appropriately labels.
  • Adheres to quality and compliance standards per AAMI guidelines.
  • Adheres to the organizations quality checks and tasks as assigned by department manager.
