The **Lifeguard & Swim Instructor** is critical to pool safety at the Y and teaches high quality, safe swimming lessons, making sure every minute counts towards learning and exploring in the water.
* Ensure safety in and around the pool area.
* Maintain a clean, safe pool area.
* Communicate appropriately with parents, staff, members and guests.
* Influence the lives of children, parents, and adult students by modeling performance of water skills, water safety, and fitness.
* Keep records of students and administer record keeping duties as outlined by management.
* Be responsible for and follow a written lesson plan for all sessions.
* Attend and be an active participant at staff meetings.
**Full Time, 36-40 Hours per Week, Flexible Schedule, Benefits Eligible**
**Shift Rotations Available Monday-Friday:**
* 5:00 am-1:00 pm
* 9:00 am-5:00 pm
* 1:00 pm-9:00 pm
**Rotating Weekend Shifts Required:**
* Saturdays between 6:00 am-6:00 pm
* Sundays between 9:00 am-6:00 pm
**$2 PAY DIFFERENTIAL FOR OPENING SHIFTS (M-F, 5 am-8 am)**
**$1 PAY DIFFERENTIAL FOR WEEKEND SHIFTS**

Qualifications **We are looking for someone who displays the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.** Must be age 16 or older. Must hold a current Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications. *The YMCA also offers Lifeguard Certification Classes.* Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards. Must have a love for swimming and a desire to teach young children. Adequate knowledge of swimming skills and the ability to communicate how to perform these skills to the students required. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness required.
