Starpath Robotics is developing a full-stack solution for propellant production on the Moon, from mining water to refilling landing craft. As part of this mission, we re looking to expand our mechanical engineering capabilities, and that starts with you. As a Starpath Mechanisms Design Engineer, you would be responsible for the design & build of mechanisms and structures on spacefaring hardware, with the additional responsibility of directing your hardware through the prototype phase into lunar surface operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, build, and test space mechanisms and structural systems for use on the lunar surface.
  • Define & justify mechanical system requirements, conduct trade space analysis, and document decisions.
  • Engage in all phases of the flight hardware design process, spanning from conceptualization and detailed design to trade studies, structural analysis, development testing, and qualification.
  • Interface with adjacent teams to cohesively integrate hardware with supporting subsystems.


Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, OR demonstrated excellence at design & construction of mechanical systems via significant project experience
  • 3+ years of experience designing & building mechanisms/structures
  • Experience with CAD, mechanical analysis, and Design for Manufacturing
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects from start to finish
  • A strong desire to help permanently establish humanity off-Earth


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience developing mechanical systems
  • Experience with design of hardware for space applications, including interfacing with key stakeholders (e.g. NASA)
  • Experience with design, analysis, and build of thermal control systems
  • Experience with designing vibration-resistant systems
  • Desire and capability to develop hardware on rapid timelines & demonstrate extreme ownership
  • High levels of personal agency & productivity


Position Details

  • Location: Los Angeles - Hawthorne
  • Hiring for this position at all post-graduate levels of candidate experience
  • Salary base rate is $90-$150k/yr, plus equity package; compensation scales with candidate experience.
