DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK

SALARY: $14.00 per hour

MINIMUM AGE: 18 years of age

HOURS: Part-Time (maximum 28 hours per week); flexible, year round

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is unskilled labor assisting in the work of a department or operational unit. The employee performs a variety of manual tasks under direct or general supervision.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
A valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Functions essential to attaining job objectives)

  • Physically transports heavy objects for extended periods of time (i.e., park picnic tables).
  • Performs a variety of manual labor tasks such as ditch digging, grass cutting and laying asphalt using shovels, lawn mowers, power tools, hand tools and other equipment as appropriate.
  • Operates gasoline powered walk-behind turf mowers, edgers, weed whips, and leaf blowers. Uses hand pruners, pole saws, rakes, shovels, and brooms.
  • Lifts and carries or transports heavy objects for continuous lengths of time.
  • Performs unskilled maintenance tasks including painting and cleaning equipment.
  • Works outdoors in extreme heat, rain or other unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Follows verbal and written instructions.
  • May drive a City vehicle to and from work assignments.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to follow instructions and to work independently under general supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment requiring reasonable dexterity and motor skills.
  • Ability to report for work daily at the designated time.
