Maintenance Technician


5 + Years of Experience in a maintenance-related role

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

A one-year certificate from a college or technical school required

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Must be skilled in Mechanical and Electrical


Required Skills:


Install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as programmable controllers, motors, conveyors, and robotics following electrical code and blueprints and using hand tools and test equipment;

Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connect cables and wires between machines and equipment, following manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints, using hand tools and test equipment;

Diagnose malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures using test equipment and replace damaged or broken wires and cables, using hand tools

Replace faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, motors, and positions sensing devices;

Replace electric motor bearings and rewire motors;

Visually inspect and test malfunctioning machinery and equipment, using test equipment, and discuss malfunction with other maintenance workers and equipment operators to diagnose malfunction;

Listen for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discuss machine operation variations with supervisors, equipment operators, or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repair machine or equipment;

Perform preventive maintenance, clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery using rags, brushes, and grease guns;

Layout, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment and repair and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related components;

Repair and maintain the physical structure of the plant and equipment, including masonry, carpentry, and welding work;

Confer with management to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of the machinery and equipment;

Follows all policies and procedures as outlined in the Stand Operating Procedures, Environmental Management System, and various other Employment Policies and sources as they relate to the job function.

Carries tools and equipment to and from storage and working areas.

Repairs or replaces defective parts; Adjusts functional parts of devices.

Holds scaffolding members in place or tightens bolts to erect working platforms around machines.

Pulls handles to raise materials and tools to working levels.

Loosens bolts to dismantle machinery.

Drills and breaks up concrete.

Bends, cuts, and threads pipe, cuts openings in walls, ceilings, and floor for pipes, and seals pipe joints with sealing compound.

Patches or replaces plaster or plasterboard and paints walls, ceilings, and trim of building.

Cleans machines with sandpaper, solvent, and wiping rags to prepare surfaces for painting.

Replaces or repairs machine belts.

Oils and grease machines.

Operates welding machines to repair or join metal.

Follows OSHA standards when performing lockout/tagout procedures.

Cleans work area, tools, and equipment.

Clears clogged drains and replaces plumbing fixtures.
