Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 7.5 hours per day with 30 min. unpaid lunch (PREP: 16 hours)
Start Date: June 2024

Required Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in nursing
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the MN Board of Nursing
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations
  • Current training in CPR and First Aid;
  • Commitment to confidentiality regarding students and staff;
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining good working relationships with school personnel and the community.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as a Public Health Nurse
Responsibilities:
  • Provides orientation, on-going support, supervision and evaluation of LPN's/ARN's and other school personnel delivering health services
  • Delegates to LPN's/ARN's and other school personnel the performance of skilled nursing procedures, according to the MN Nurse Practice Act
  • Demonstrates knowledge of ISD 622 policies as well as state and federal laws related to school health service programs
  • Participates in research and evaluation of school health services
  • Administer medications in accordance with physicians' orders and parent authorization, using ISD 622 procedures and School Board Policy
  • Communicate medication administration policies and procedures to parents
  • Maintenance of health service records within the Campus System
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary special education teams. Completes health assessment, develops health component of the IEP (individual Education Plan)
  • Conduct weekly site visits and delegate health-related duties
  • Observes students for developmental and health related status
  • Maintains, evaluates and interprets health data to access and accommodate individual needs in accordance with ISD 622 and the MN Data Practices Act, HIPAA, FERPA
  • Promotes and assists in communicable disease control through immunization programs, early detection, monitoring and reporting
  • Initiates referrals to parents, school and community resources for intervention and follow-up
  • Provides on-going health counseling and health education to students and families
  • Recommends and assists with implementation of school programs to meet students' health needs, 504 plans, Individual Health Plans (IHP's) and Emergency Care Plans (ECP's)
  • Implements school health management protocol for students with acute and/or chronic health conditions (includes the administration of medication and other medically directed treatments)
  • Utilizes District 622 first aid guidelines and infectious disease guideline when caring for students and staff
  • Participates with the crisis intervention team for acute illness, injury and emotional crisis
  • Promotes parental skill development and learning
  • Provides support, outreach and referral to students regarding reproductive health issues, mental health concerns and substance use/abuse
  • Serves as a resource to teachers providing health information and supports employee wellness programs
  • Obtain knowledge of OSHA standards
  • Attend annual mandatory Blood Borne Pathogen Training
  • Assist legal authorities as requested by Principal
  • Attends required in-service education offerings, CPR and First Aid Training
  • Perform duties applicable and accountable to the level of education and/or licensure
  • Perform general office duties as follows: Answer phone, voice mail and e-mail; File; Record pertinent data into Campus; Order and inventory supplies bi-annually
  • Additional duties as assigned.
