Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as game official or umpire for respective activity
  • Keeps score for various contests and updates standing
  • Inspects fields and facilities to ensure proper setup and safe conditions for program participants
  • Informs coaches of schedule or field changes
  • Administers First Aid to injured players, officials or spectators
  • Processes paperwork for code violations, First Aid rendered, and weekly league scores
  • Ensures safety of spectators and players
  • Enforces league rules and players code of conduct
  • Interfaces between Town and coaches, players, spectators, and facility owners during practices and games
  • Sets up and takes down game equipment
  • Cares for sports equipment and takes inventory
  • Assists with special events or tournaments
  • Performs duties of Scorekeeper as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required


Minimum Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Age Requirement:Must be at least 15 years of age

Experience: Must have one to two (1-2) years participation in the respective sport/activity applicable to the position

Licenses and/or Certifications Required: CPR and First Aid Certification are required (these certifications can be obtained through the Recreation department)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of athletic/sports official rules and sports terminology
  • Knowledge of sports rules and regulations for various age groups, i.e. youth T-ball to adult softball
  • Skill in operating a computer terminal, custodial tools, score boards, and sports equipment
  • Skill in performing mathematical operations involving basic addition, subtraction, and division and basic geometric principles and calculations
  • Skill in interacting with coworkers, spectators, coaches, and activity participants
  • Ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information, such as tournament/league schedules, official rule books, Town Code of Ordinances, ACEP Volunteer Instruction Guide
  • Ability to read field and facility diagrams and dimensions


Must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check prior to commencing employment.
